The Presents You Should’ve Gotten Your Loved Ones This Christmas

As despicable as it may appear, a battery and an onion are perfect gifts. Unfortunately, Jimmy Kimmel got to it before I did, so everyone probably already bought their spouses and children onions and batteries for their cooking and portable energy needs. While you probably did decently around the Christmas tree in supplying the latest and greatest gifts to those that matter most, you probably didn’t give out the best gifts. But fear not! I’m here to be your elf undercover and help you save the holidays from less-than-ideal gifts with the perfect list of stuff! If you hurry now, you might still be able to cook up a ‘well, Santa’s a little late to our house this year’ excuse. In fact, just use that one, it’s great. Works all the time.

The World’s Largest Reese’s Cups – Our Review!

You may love Reese’s peanut butter, you may even like the candy, married to a milk chocolate casing. But do you love it enough to consume an 1150-calorie (yes, over half your daily value!) Reese’s peanut butter cup, the world’s largest? Let’s just say, you’ll have to be a pretty big fan to plunk down not only the premium for the rare candy, but you’ll have to take in the excess, too. See how we handled after the break! Read the rest of this article…

‘Tiny Tower’ For Android Review – Where Are The Good Strategy Games?

‘Tiny Tower’ For Android Review – Where Are The Good Strategy Games?

Yes, yes, it’s been out for iOS for at least an age, but with its recent introduction to Android owners, of which there are quite a few more, it’s time to give Tiny Tower a look-over. In part because of its popularity and also because its average hardware spec is maturing, we’re finally starting to see a mini-Renaissance of Android games, most of which are iOS ports, but if you’ve never had an iPhone, hey, who cares right? I’ve been dying for a good strategy game on my phone and Tiny Tower is very much a Zynga-style game (of which we have played several), but like Paradise Island for mobiles, it sheds the social responsibilities of those games while maintaining all of the irritating idiosyncracies and shallow gameplay.

HTC And Samsung Are Screwing Up Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich… Or Are They?

HTC And Samsung Are Screwing Up Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich… Or Are They?

We’ve mentioned it on here before (I think), but a stock version of Android on a smartphone is not a looker. It’d be very difficult to pitch Android on aesthetics against a stock Windows Phone or iPhone because of its utilitarian nature. Android sells 700,000 phones a day because of the OS’s ubiquity. So now that Google’s put some effort into making a beautiful operating system (thanks to webOS’s Matias Duarte), what do HTC and Samsung do? Seek to ruin it entirely.

Buying Star Wars: The Old Republic Via EA’s Origin Service Is Tragic

Buying Star Wars: The Old Republic Via EA’s Origin Service Is Tragic

Imagine a thing that’s great. Awesome, even. Now imagine an agent that works to damper that, to make it worse, to totally destroy its goodness, like rain on your wedding day or a free ride when you’ve already paid. I’ve talked about how digital distribution was the magnificent future of video gaming, in which new games could be acquired on Day One without needing to visit a Large Room Full Of Boxes. On impulse, I decided that I should buy Star Wars: The Old Republic, because our good pal Rob recommended it, and since I could only acquire it digitally through EA’s “new” Origin download service, I figured that was a good start. Little did I realize what sort of hazy wormhole I’d have to trip through in order to acquire the game I paid for.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol Review

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol Review

You’re a high tech spy thousands of miles from home, disavowed. All you have left are three partners-in-crime and a train car full of your agency’s last high-tech goodies. You just allegedly bombed the Kremlin and you’ve got to prevent a nuclear holocaust. So what do you do? Anything you can. Produced by Tom Cruise (of course) and JJ Abrams (who directed the series’ last outing), the viewfinder has been passed onto animator Brad Bird, who made the excellent The Iron Giant and The Incredibles and has now made an incredibly slick action thriller in Ghost Protocol, his live-action debut.

Galaxy Nexus On Verizon + Google Wallet = Leave Your Real Wallet At Home!

Galaxy Nexus On Verizon + Google Wallet = Leave Your Real Wallet At Home!

If you’ve read the site for a bit, you know I’ve been super excited about the advent of NFC-enabled payment and check-ins. While the latter’s still a little ways out, it’s possible, albeit on extremely rare hardware, to pay for stuff with a few taps of your cell phone, at least in North America. Google’s made a push toward NFC-enabled payments with Wallet, but so far, only one phone on exactly one carrier (the Nexus S on Sprint) supports it. Well, I’m here to tell you today that dreams do come true (if you have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, anyway) and I’m more than happy to show you how this future of paying for stuff works!

Verizon Galaxy Nexus – The Last Review You’ll Ever Need

Verizon Galaxy Nexus – The Last Review You’ll Ever Need

Yes, I’m a liar. After ranting about Verizon’s poor handling of the Galaxy Nexus announcement I was bitter and, well, extremely bitter. But now that the phone is out in stores, me ditching Sprint in the process to get it on the Big Red carrier, even the most vile and grim of hearts will melt once you start using it. It may not win on a few fronts in the spec wars, but this is, end-to-end, the best Android phone money can buy. You may have read other reviews about the international version of this phone, but this is the first – and last- review you’ll need on the Verizon version. Let me explain just why.

Xbox Live Arcade Needs A Humble Bundle

Xbox Live Arcade Needs A Humble Bundle

I really wish Microsoft would get its head out of its butt regarding pricing on Xbox Live. Yeah, we get that you make a lot of money on it, but the draconian method by which you determine how items are priced in it prevent some really cool things from happening. Stuff like the Humble Bundle.

When Will Ice Cream Sandwich Change The Android World? Ever?

When Will Ice Cream Sandwich Change The Android World? Ever?

Now that the Galaxy Nexus is finally out on American shelves today, finally, we’re really going to see the wheels on Google’s latest – and certainly most differentiated – version of Android roll into homes. We’ve had our time with Android 4.0 (or Ice Cream Sandwich, as you know it) and we think it’s pretty swell, but are any of Google’s big efforts to improve Android substantially really going to make it to most customers any time soon? Unfortunately, no.
