Google’s I/O Keynote: How They’re Making Android Better

Lots of interesting ways that Google is upgrading Android development

For Google watchers around the world, the company’s I/O keynote is kind of a big deal. The conference brings in thousands of Android developers and Google announces a variety of cool new aspects, tools, and components available to them and, subsequently, users down the road. What developers make is ultimately what we’ll get. So what did they show off today for Android? Some pretty cool stuff. Let me show you the highlights.

‘Strip Search’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 22 “Elimination #7”

The meek juvenile versus the experienced auteur.

…and then there were five. Katie sent Monica and Lexxy off to prove themselves before the creators. I say it every elimination, but we don’t get to see what these artists are really made of until they show up for elimination, then half of them are dismissed right away.

I Don’t Much Care For This New Daft Punk Album

I Don’t Much Care For This New Daft Punk Album

Daft Punk means business.

I respect Daft Punk’s ability to funkify things; to elevate things in the room. I’ve enjoyed a bunch of their work over the years thanks to a Newgrounds cartoon for “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” and their score for 2010’s Tron: Legacy. Yesterday, their first album in eight years, Random Access Memories, leaked to the internet. This isn’t a guide on how to get it, but I must say, I’m pretty put off by the result.

FEZ PLAY: Way Of The Dogg (Xbox 360) – Rhythm Action Meets Just Absolute Garbage

Drop it like it’s hot, or if it happens to be playing on your console.

Kels has been hounding N to play this game forever. Not really, but some canine instinct to flee settles in pretty quick as we hit the dog pound, or Dogg Pound, rather. How does Snoop Dogg/Lion’s effort to make a brawler stand up? Is it mere bark or bite? NOTE: The juttery footage is an artifact of our capture, not the game. Not that you should play this game, but that shouldn’t be your reason why. I mean, it could be.

Ace Patrol (iOS) Review: WWI In Just A Few Turns

That dirigible must fall! Green icons indicate firing actions

Of course 2K would give Ace Patrol – Sid Meier’s new mobile game – away for free. They may as well drape a Ziploc bag over the icon on your home screen. They want you hooked and it’s not long before your recollection of WWI moves beyond bi-planes and stark black and white photos to how fast you can tap in your password to get some extra aerial campaigns.

Are You Ready For Nvidia’s New Gaming Handheld?

It’s finally here! Wait, were we waiting for it?

Can you believe it’s been four months since Nvidia unveiled their Shield handheld? My, my how time flies! Well, now it’s nearly summer and it’s time for the company to start shipping the thing, which the company has said will begin next month. At $349.99, it’s going to be a hard sell, though.

The N5 Show: Week #20, 2013 – Is College Worth It? Over-Funded Kickstarters?

The Art Institute of Colorado is where the three of us went.

Cody, TC, and N reflect on whether nine months to three years worth of art school was worth tens of thousands of dollars of debt and throwing out everything we knew about life! In our second segment, we talk about Kickstarter campaigns that may have become too big for their britches? Let’s figure it out!

1968 Kids Meal Comic Depicts Children Enjoying ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’

1968 Kids Meal Comic Depicts Children Enjoying ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’

I’m Going To Be A Space Pilot.

Ask any filmmaker, aspiring or otherwise, and they’ll tell you that Stanley Kubrick and his 2001: A Space Odyssey are major influences. Of course. His 1968 science-fiction classic launched a lot of careers and inspired millions, even after its plodding and ethereal themes were replaced by the rapid-fire space fantasy of Star Wars nearly a decade later. After 45 years, it’s honestly hard for me to envision kids hopping for joy at seeing such a mature film, much less a comic starring kids who won’t “tell the ending”.

‘Arrested Development’ Season 4 Is Two Weeks Away; I Must Prepare

Nothing going on here! Just… nothing!

I’m one of those people. The ones that wouldn’t tune into FOX on Sunday nights to watch Arrested Development while every critic and their grandma was ranting about how excellent it was. I’d tried to watch clips online, which are virtually useless without the context of the series. Seriously, it’s like trying to snap onto a railroad while the train’s on it: you have to be on from the beginning. Anyway, I’m all aboard the Good Ship Bluth as it sets sail on Netflix in 13 short days. I’m ready for it all.

Where Are We? Unleash Your Inner Carmen Sandiego With Geoguessr

I think this is the closest I ever got.

You’re a stranger in a strange land. You’re plopped down onto a road somewhere randomly on the planet. You can go up and down this road, just like you would any Google Street View, but all navigational markings are missing. With only your wits and a vague sense of direction, you hazard to where you are and place a pin on the map. Depending on how far you were, your points go up exponentially. Place a pin in France and wind up in Australia and, well, you won’t have that many points.
