Microsoft Giving Away Xbox Live-Branded Consoles To First Subs, Better Give Me One

To celebrate Xbox Live’s tenth anniversary, Microsoft is giving its earliest subscribers a free Live-themed console. That’s right, for those who stood outside their retailer of choice and bought one of those first Xbox Live Starter Kits, the ones with the crappy Whacked! demo and an inaugural year of the service, it appears the software giant will be dropping the goods right on your doorstep. Oh, and if they miss me (or Johnny, who I believe is the only other FEZ staffer who’s held an account that long), someone’s throat will seriously get ripped.

Falling In Love With Peter Molyneux’s ‘Curiosity’

It’s a big ol’ cube!

Before Microsoft acquired his Lionhead Studios, world-famous game designer Peter Molyneux was known for shepherding quirky games. Before they became “The Fable Company”, they brought us the Black & White games and Hollywood simulator The Movies, a personal favorite. Before that though, Molyneux had launched and built Bullfrog, home of some of the best strategy games of the golden era of PC gaming. Well, now he’s out on his own with company 22 Cans, a strange incubator of quirky new games. I only know this because I’ve played Curiosity, a game that isn’t easy to recommend.

NPD: ‘XCOM: Enemy Unknown’ Sales Disappoint

Keep blastin’, guys.

If you’re a hardcore game forumer, you realize the important part of any month is that second Thursday when NPD retail sales are released. Long the lifeblood of fanboy wars, the statistics – which are part of an expensive report sold to analysts, journalists, and platform holders – have been increasingly shrouded over the past few years. While the Xbox 360 continues to outsell the rest, video game sales continue to decline, and no one’s buying a PlayStation Vita, the biggest surprise came in XCOM: Enemy Unknown sales. In short: there weren’t many.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Finally Goes Free Next Thursday, End Of Long, Sad Journey

Pew, pew, pew…

Bioware has finally announced its plans for what will become of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Earlier this year, we reported on that it was going free to play after far less than a year following extremely disappointing sales. The game had a rocky start, had a rockier middle, and the conclusion seemed inevitable. So will players finally start joining in and make SWTOR another post-free-to-play success or will they continue to ignore the war between the Republic and the Sith? Read the rest of this article…

Kids Have It So Easy: Hulu To Launch Ad-Free Kids Section

Seriously, they can just pick whatever they want and… criminy.

When we moved back to the States in 1991, my loving mother had created a list of cartoons to watch, plucked from individual channels. It was five consecutive hours of cartoons to watch on Saturday morning including Macaulay Culkin’s “Wish Kid”, MC Hammer’s “Hammer Time” and “Yo Yogi!”, all lined up before the news started. In the afternoons we’d have Turtles and Power Rangers and would otherwise have to spend our days outside, y’know, playing. Kids have it so easy these days, they just don’t understand, and now Hulu’s going to make it even easier.
