Game Developer Chris Hecker Uses PlayStation 4 Unveil To Criticize Gaming Industry

A snapshot of Killzone: Shadow Falls, a small taste of what the next generation looks like.

It’s like the old stuff, but new.

Chris Hecker is no stranger to controversy. During his stint at Maxis, he called the Wii “two GameCubes duct-taped together” and “a piece of shit”. This year, he decided to use his five minutes to rant at the Game Developers Conference about the present and future of gaming, using various clips from Sony’s PlayStation 4 unveiling to prove his point. Hecker is no great editor, but his point becomes clear pretty quick.

Hecker’s cuts are interesting, but it seems odd that he wouldn’t leave something like Media Molecule’s effort – which is the loosest and most creative form of a game I saw at Sony’s conference, hanging off the end. He still had thirty seconds for a rebuttal to his own point to show he wasn’t just out to raze his colleagues’ efforts.

Oh, well. Keep on keeping on, Hecker.
