Reports are coming in pointing to an issue related with the newest firmware update for the PS3. The update in question is 4.45 and is widest reported amongst users that have upgraded their hard drives or users that have the 500GB version. People reporting the issues on Sony’s PlayStation Community site explain that the PS3 is stuck in at the startup screen and power cycling the console isn’t doing anything.

The update is supposed to be fixing stability issues as well as allow users to turn off Trophy notifications. Sony has rolled back to firmware version 4.41, but be cautious if your console is prompting you to update. There isn’t official word on what is causing the issue, but we’ve reached out to Sony to find out more details. In the meantime you can track the Sony forum for updates.
