2011: M83 – Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming
It seems weird to call anything a “double album” these days, especially when each side is only about thirty-five minutes and no one actually buys discs anymore. Coming off a soundtrack he created for an obscure French thriller, M83 (well, Anthony Gonzales) was disappointed by his effort. In this creative rebound, he explores an elaborate 80s-themed dreamscape. From a little girl explaining how great it would be if we turned into a swarm of frogs to any number of tracks that could’ve passed as theme songs to kids programming or even crime dramas, it’s as if Gonzalez bottled the entire decade and compressed it into a format we can absorb quickly, over and over and over… I already need more. MOAR.
