The Result
After two weeks, it’s hard to imagine going back to a regular shoe whenever I can help it. These are on whenever I leave the house, but I imagine Arizona’s year-round always-warm climate allows for that to an extent. Now that I’m in, it’s hard to get out and I’ve gotten over their appearance because they’re fantastic to wear. I’ve even felt greater mobility in my toes because of having to intentionally part them to get them in the shoes to begin with. They smell much less worse (at the moment) than any other shoe I’ve worn without socks and they’re machine washable, so they go in with every batch of laundry and get air dried afterward.
They’re an easy recommendation for me to make, but the barrier to entry is still pretty high. You can’t really experiment with a pair of Vibrams without buying them (again, get fitted!) and walking around with them for a while. There’s also the issue that many of their pairs are appalling to look at, even the ones, ironically, designed to look like more standard shoes.
Still, if you loathe traditional shoes like I’ve come to – or just really want to get excited about footwear again – this is an easy fit.
