Wanderlust Review: Hippie Bullshit

Two self absorbed yuppies drift through a sea of grotesquerie in this mess of a rom com from director David Wain. Arguments abound, life lessons are learned, and dicks flap freely in the wind in a hippie commune. Humor never makes an appearance. Complete fucking bullshit.

Act of Valor Review: Valorous Propaganda

Act of Valor Review: Valorous Propaganda

The Navy’s experiment in action filmmaking combined with propaganda yields surprisingly decent results in Act of Valor, a movie holding the distinction of featuring active duty Navy Seals in principal roles and utilizing live ammo during several of its firefight sequences. The movie is frequently dry and flat when it comes to human drama, but competently crafted and engaging when the bullets start flying. For action junkies, Act of Valor may end up being one of the better movies of the year.

Newgrounds Relaunches, My Interview With Founder Tom Fulp

Newgrounds Relaunches, My Interview With Founder Tom Fulp

Newgrounds, as its tagline suggests, is everything for everyone. Adobe Flash made a crowdsourcing star out of the site with tons of quirky, violent, and comical games and movies before it powered the internet video revolution with sites like YouTube. Founded by Tom Fulp, a kid from Pennsylvania, Newgrounds originally served as a comic book in 1995. The site grew at the turn of the century as its Flash Portal allowed people to upload their work to the site to be judged, then celebrated or blammed (the site’s term for ‘sent to oblivion’). While Newgrounds doesn’t celebrate YouTube’s traffic, it’s developed a cool, insular community. Newgrounds recently launched its first major redesign in over half a decade and I got to sit down with Tom about the new look and feel and how the site is going to move in the future.

Is EVE Online The Best Massively-Multiplayer Game Ever Made?

Is EVE Online The Best Massively-Multiplayer Game Ever Made?

The Massively Multiplayer Online game is an interesting idea. I mean, just put it on paper: imagine a gaming experience in which each character is another human somewhere on the planet. Far more than a glorified chat room, an MMO allows for not only an expansive universe to reside in, but persistent gameplay that gives you a reason to dive in, and furthermore, a reason to keep coming back. I’ve explained my tentative relationship with these games before, but it seems to me that EVE Online has worked the hardest to fulfill the genre’s potential, even with World of Warcraft dominating and Star Wars: The Old Republic doing well in its own regard. But does that make EVE Online a good game in its own right?

Awake on NBC is TV’s Most Exciting New Series

Like FleshEatingZipper, NBC’s new detective thriller – Awake – is full of layers, which is to say we’re sophisticated. We’ll cover virtually anything under the sun and Awake has clever, multi-threaded investigations each episode, so it makes sense that we would bring them on as our newest sponsor. Every morning, Michael Britten awakes to a new reality in which either his wife or his son is dead after a terrible car crash. He ping-pongs between these parallel universes in each episode as he solves the greatest mystery of all: why he’s stuck this way.

Gotham City Impostors Review – Already a Candidate for Shooter of the Year?

When it comes to Batman themed games very few have actually been any good, the most recent ‘Arkham’ titles being the only two of note, but if you don’t mind getting all silly-like, Gotham City Impostors is probably right up there with the best of them. Read the rest of this article…

Microsoft Officially Killing Off Windows Live and Zune?

It’s been a few months since we first heard about the rumors that Microsoft would be killing the Zune brand but this is the first we’ve heard of killing the Windows Live brand. People are learning from the upcoming Consumer Preview release of Windows 8 that Windows Live and Zune are being phased out for a more straight forward naming convention.

‘Syndicate’ Review – The First Great Shooter Of 2012

‘Syndicate’ Review – The First Great Shooter Of 2012

This game came out of nowhere and won my heart. The trailer did it first, then the multi-player demo followed up. If an analogy must be made, it must be that Syndicate is a faster-paced Deus Ex: Human Revolution. In the single-player, you’re cast as agent Miles Kilo, a testbed for a powerful new weapons chip that the titanic EuroCorp is about to leverage against its corporate rivals. While the single-player can be a little ho-hum, it’s the co-op multiplayer where the game really shines. Unfortunately, I know many who will be turned away on that fact alone.

Maddox: Our Interview With The Author Of ‘I Am Better Than Your Kids’

I wrote recently about internet star George “Maddox” Ouzounian and how he’d built a miniature empire on destroying virtually anything through elaborate rants on either his web site, The Best Page In The Universe, or through his books. He had fallen off the face of the planet until recently with the release of his new book, I Am Better Than Your Kids. I wanted to chat with the man himself about where he’s been, what he’s doing, and even what phone he’s rocking these days.
