The World Wide Web Turns 20 Today, Why Does It Matter?

Triple-dub, yo.

Twenty years ago today, the very first web page went up on the internet. Created by Tim Berners-Lee while under the employ of particle-smasher CERN, he wanted a way to create a web of documents that could be hyperlinked together and accessed without needing another individual on the other side of the line to pick up. There’s a lot of things the World Wide Web is, but a lot it’s not. For example, the world wide web is not “the internet”, but a single way of transferring information across it. The creation of the WWW (or W3) changed the face of not just the internet, but mankind as we know it.

Here’s That Google Glass Instructional Video You Asked For

Here’s That Google Glass Instructional Video You Asked For

Pretty clever building the trackpad like that.

Don’t you remember getting that new toy/game/whatever as a kid and ripping out the instruction manual, filling up on all its details, and memorizing the whole thing end to end? Yep, I remember that very well. Well, since I don’t have Google Glass and you probably don’t either, let’s just go ahead and watch this introductory video as if we were wearing them right now.

‘Pacific Rim’: Okay Del Toro, Sell Me On Your Giant Robot/Monster Movie

‘Pacific Rim’: Okay Del Toro, Sell Me On Your Giant Robot/Monster Movie

Now it’s personal!

It’s ironic that despite loving Power Rangers as a kid, a $100 million-plus movie about giant robots and huge terrible thunder lizards somehow repelled me. Yeah, weird. Poster Videodrome’s been keeping us up to date in the forums, but I haven’t had much to say about it. I mean, okay, it’s a nerd fantasy. With the recent release of the new Wonder Con footage, I have to ask director Guillermo del Toro, “why is this your first movie in seven years?”

Mars: War Logs (PC) Hands-On: Roll, Dust, Roll

Mars: War Logs (PC) Hands-On: Roll, Dust, Roll

And one and two and three and twist!

You only need to read Mars: War Log’s awkwardly-worded name to know if it’s for you. An action-RPG that looks like Fallout and Red Faction were thrown in a blender, Wars Logs‘ drab exterior hides some pretty interesting depth. If only I hadn’t got stuck.

‘Strip Search’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 18 “Sketch For Tips”

Khoo being a dick.

Another Tuesday, another Strip Search! Last week, I was wary of the artists’ return to their convention setups. We were just in the Card Kingdom’s dungeon and now we’re back? Fine. In the end, it paid off.

‘Stonehearth’ Is A City-Builder/D&D-Inspired RPG, Sign Me Up!

‘Stonehearth’ Is A City-Builder/D&D-Inspired RPG, Sign Me Up!

Yep, I want all of this.

Sometimes I wonder why kids don’t design more games. Stonehearth, the culmination of Tom and Tony Cannon’s childhood fantasies, reminds me of something I would’ve loved to build had I the ability as a youngster. Voxel-based games are making tons of childish ambitions come to life with games like Castle Story and Guncraft. Maybe I’m hyping up the design sensibilities of our nation’s youth, but they wouldn’t make a chorish shitshow like Star Trek: The Video Game, so it’s odd that full-grown adults would.

‘Grand Theft Auto V’ Trailers Are Here, September 17th Could Not Be Farther Away

‘Grand Theft Auto V’ Trailers Are Here, September 17th Could Not Be Farther Away

Par for the course.

Delivering just as promised, Rockstar unleashed a trio of new trailers for Grand Theft Auto V to further establish their new protagonists. I’ve mentioned my aversion to Rockstar’s super-serious, film-riffing style before, but eh, I’ll but it aside just this once.

What’s Happening At E3 This Year? And What Would You Like To See?

The Electronic Entertainment Nerdgasm

Last year, Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment took a huge dump all over my dreams, as well as my predictions, when they decided to not announce the next generation Xbox and the PlayStation 4. This year, they took a huge dump all over my dreams again by announcing them early, the PS4 having been announced a few weeks ago and the new Xbox being unveiled a few weeks from now.

So what’s happening at E3 this year and what will we be up to?

‘Game Dev Tycoon’ Includes Glitch To Combat Rip-Off Pirates, Is A Rip-Off All Its Own

Game Dev Story (1997) v. Game Dev Tycoon (2013)

There’s a lot of commotion around the internet about Game Dev Tycoon‘s clever anti-piracy measure. Its developer, Green Heart Games, uploaded a special version of their game to the torrent space in hopes of teaching pirates a lesson. Players would soon complain that as they got to the modern era of game development, their company was sent into a financial spiral as, ironically, their titles got pirated and they would lose the game. Funny thing about that, though: Green Heart Games’ Game Dev Tycoon isn’t exactly an all-original adventure, either.

Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine (PC) Review: ‘Ocean’s 11’ For Itchy Trigger Fingers

Wipe in 3… 2… 1…

Stealing things is kinda cool, at least it’s cool to fantasize about. When you were a kid, those cookies were all yours, but you really wanted to be Danny Ocean (Sinatra or Clooney, either way) and be part of an elaborate heist with the most incredible setup, execution and getaway. Monaco lets you be the thief you’ve always dreamed you could be, but botching the attempt might be just as fun.
