Android, iPhone, And Windows Phone Users Unite: We Have The Smartphone Manifesto!
We, the users of smartphones of all walks of life, hereby propose a unifying document to bring about positive, productive change in the wonderful toys and tools that we use on a regular basis. For all the cool, revolutionary stuff going on out there, there’s still plenty of room to improve, especially here in the US. Rather than merely camping out in front of Verizon, Sprint, or Google’s global headquarters like those other guys, we’ve decided to put forth a literal effort toward change. Join us in our Revolution!
Beavis And Butt-head – TV Review – “Daughter’s Hand” / “Tech Support” (Spoilertastic!)
Another week, another new Beavis And Butt-head! (Ha, wow, that’s still funny to type out.) This latest episode was great. Come check out both segments after the break because “I understand your frustration!”
Tower Heist – Movie Review – A Fun, Suspense-Free Theft (Spoilers Included!)
I’m a sucker for a good heist flick. I like the characters, each bringing their particular set of skills to a unique jigsaw puzzle. The planning. The execution. The screw-ups. The recoveries. On and on. I love an elaborately set trap. In many ways, Tower Heist is similar to Soderbergh’s Ocean’s films of the past decade in that they lack much suspense and work well largely because of the actors on board. However, there are two big differences: the Ocean’s films are much more exquisitely crafted than this outing while Soderbergh’s classy, high-end direction is unforgettable, atthe end of the day, no one will remember who Brett Ratner was.
New PlayStation Home Update Reveals It’s Just As Irritatingly Pointless As Ever [Now With Epic Video!]
Before the hate starts rolling in, know that I was for PlayStation Home before I was against it. I was intrigued by the prospect of a virtual world in which you could interact with people, have customizable user spaces, and do “stuff” with your friends. And then I actually used it. Today Sony brought us a new update which added new ‘genre’ zones, new functionality and frankly, other junk. Will this melt the hearts of those with the coldest, most unfavorable opinions of the service? Not even slightly.
When Is Galaxy S 2 Getting Ice Cream Sandwich? When Is Galaxy S Getting Gingerbread?
You’d figure that after becoming the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer (recently out-shipping Apple), Samsung should be on top of its game when it comes to upgrades. Unfortunately, their tragic history in supporting its devices looks to torpedo its quickly-selling Galaxy <insert variant here> smartphones, minus the Google-backed Nexus phones, like the Galaxy Nexus.
Grand Theft Auto V Revealed. I Want It! …Maybe?
If you visited a gaming site today, you’d know that Rockstar released the first trailer for its new blockbuster Grand Theft Auto game. What do you mean you didn’t? Well, we included it after the break just in case. So now I’m both excited and depressed by it for reasons not terribly dissimilar to my article about Grand Theft Auto 3. Some are screaming cries of joy for this game and mine could not be more mixed. There’s plenty to like in what we’ve seen and there’s plenty to be cautious about considering aspects of the last iteration of the series. I’ll break it all down after the break as well!
The Verge Launches, We Rejoice
Now, this isn’t a concession that FleshEatingZipper isn’t the best source for tech news, because we do have the best opinions on the matter, but The Verge finally launching is awesome. We’ve covered the former Engadget editors, lead by Joshua Topolsky, as they left AOL in search of greener pastures – i.e, creating a cool new tech site. They were putting up a ton of content at their temporary site This Is My Next while expanding the staff and preparing for this launch. Which happened at 3:30 this morning. And I missed it. Barely.
‘Maniac’ Short Film – Cage And Kid Cudi Kill People
Hey, so just a question: does a short film following a pair of murderous thugs sicken you? Yeah? Well, then you’re obviously not up for “Maniac”, a short film in which murderous thugs kill people. I’m up for watching most anything and I do enjoy me some Cage, so watching him get his (fictional) murder on with Kid Cudi is a sight to behold; it’s right up the alley for the Grand Theft Auto generation. Oh, and Shia LaBeouf directed it? Fascinating. Review and the film itself embedded after the break!
How Wrong You Are: The Best Albums, 2002-2011
Okay, I was a little late to the music thing. The first album I ever bought, like an actual correlated group of songs on a shiny compact disc, was Moby’s licensed-for-everything Play, before he went back to the well to make boring downtempo for another decade. The next few years were a bit of a fluke because everything I bought was pretty awful radio rock – like Saliva’s first album or Ill Nino – and this was back when I regularly listened to radio rock (that’s how awful it was). But eventually I began to fall in love with music and began picking favorites and now that it’s been a decade, I can pick my ten favorite albums of the past ten years. Limp Bizkit’s pictured chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water couldn’t make the list because, sadly, it came out in 2000. Sigh.
HP: TouchPads Are Officially Out Everywhere, Stop Looking!
In a just-released e-mail, Hewlett-Packard has confirmed that its big splash into (and bigger withdrawal from) the tablet space with webOS is now officially gone forever. This announcement of the TouchPad’s death comes a day after new CEO Meg Whitman announced that their computer group isn’t going to be spun off and the fate of the webOS group, which the company bought a year ago for $1.2 billion, is yet to be determined (hint: they’re going to get laid off). While I never managed to snag one of the TouchPads – mostly because I was lazy and other people are stupid – I still pine for a future for the OS, which I love so dearly. Maybe Amazon will do something with those guys for future tablets, as was previously rumored? Full e-mail from HP after the break!
