Video: Dirt 3 Quick Look!
Short of a review, I’ve spent enough time not sucking at Dirt 3 to produce a video that isn’t completely sad. Check it out after the break!

iTunes Match Sounds Really Cool? Maybe?
Today was WDCC, which meant Apple’s execs stormed around on screens re-igniting our passion for e-mail clients and other boring stuff (or really, just getting their iOS features to parity with Android). The big Kahuna (or Kahlua. …anyone?) personally was the announcement of the iTunes Match feature of Apple’s new cloud-storage functionality. While it’s not anything like a Zune Pass and it’s been years since I’ve used iTunes regularly, it got me thinking: who are they pitching this to, really?
E3 2011: Microsoft Press Conference – or – How To Paint By Numbers
A Call of Duty demonstration. A brand new dash optimized for Kinect, Kinect Sports, Dance Central. Cliff Bleszinski on stage for a Gears of War 3 demonstration. Forza Motorsport with Kinect functionality. I’ve just described the bulk of Microsoft’s E3 2010 press conference. …and their 2011 show as well.
E3 2011: New XCOM Trailer Arrives, Intrigues
Oh yeah, I’m one of those guys. To say I’m hesitant going into 2K Marin’s reimagining of my favorite game of all time would be an understatement. It’s not that I’m genuinely opposed to the reinvention, or the removal of the hyphen (X-COM is the classic term), or even the bizarre, geometric baddies. Nah, it was the fact that Marin was giving us yet another art-deco, 50’s era game after two Bioshock titles. Can we move on a little? (Or maybe it’s you fighting blobs, maybe that, too.)
How Awful Is The Duke Nukem Forever Demo? Pretty Awful.
Oh, Duke. We all know about your game’s tortured development cycle, eventual death at the hands of your perfectionist creators, and resurrection under the watchful eye of Gearbox (creators of the awesome Borderlands). Now, after fourteen years of development (FOURTEEN!), First Access Club members were given an early download for the Duke Nukem Forever demo, a week and a half ahead of its release at retail. So how is it? In as few words as possible: tragically bad.
Paramount And Penny Arcade To Adapt “The New Kid” To Silver Screen
The Hollywood Reporter just broke news that Paramount is bringing Penny Arcade’s showcase concept “The New Kid” to theaters. The script is being penned by Gary Whitta, writer of The Book of Eli (I’d also followed Whitta during his tenure as EIC of PC Gamer), marking a step in the right direction by the Penny Arcade crew.
Windows 8 Unveiled: Good and Bad. [UPDATED: Video!]
Today, Windows president Steven Sinofsky demoed the newest version of Microsoft’s juggernaut operating system. It started out as very exciting, and then they showed the rest of it…
First Look: Zynga’s Empires And Allies
Oh great, another one. I’d been able to keep Zynga-free until the social gaming company, famous for soul-sapping games like FarmVille, announced they were going to be doing CityVille – a game that tapped straight into my desire for a new SimCity game. I stayed on for about five months longer than I expected, first experiencing the game’s frustrating gameplay limitations, then finally quitting when the game devolved into a mess of ‘bug your neighbors into giving you five of this thing so you can complete some arbitrary goal.’ Empires and Allies is the newest addition to the Zynga stable, which they tout is their largest launch ever, but how long will it hold my interest before it drives me up the wall?
Movie Review: Renaissance
I was hooked on Renaissance‘s look at first. At a time when A Scanner Darkly and Sin City were making the rounds, this sneaky little French animation peaked my interest. I didn’t know why, but it took me a good half a decade to find a copy of this movie at a reasonable price – namely, $5 at Fry’s. That said, there’s a good reason why this movie’s hard to find: it’s not very good.
