Is A Portable Minecraft Worth Playing?
More details have leaked out about the Minecraft Pocket Edition, the mobile version of the indie world-building darling for Android and iOS. The question: as great as it is, will it be worth shedding a lot of the game’s features to get it on our phones?
Phoenix Comicon Photo-essay: The Exhibitor Hall Day One
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Haha, just kidding, I’m not really about to be mowed down by a well-dressed futuristic soldier, or am I? Welcome to the Phoenix Comicon Exhibitor Hall, a gathering of the famous, obscure, cheap, and passionate, all under one roof. From Stan Lee to pirated seasons of Power Rangers, this place has a lot to cover. Let’s take a tour shall we?
Phoenix Comicon: Why Do You Hate Us, William Atherton?
“Here.” Johnny said, handing me a twenty. “Let’s get some pictures with him.” Before a massive Stay-Puft marshmallow man and Ecto-1 from the 1984 smash hit Ghostbusters sit William Atherton, who played the oppressive (and dickless) Walter Peck from that film. Like a starving orphan, I walked up to what looked like his manager with the slightly crumpled currency in hand. “Yes, I’d like two pictures with William Atherton.” I said, saying it to the manager, but looking right at William. He bounced right up, as friendly as could be.
Shooting and Modeling for the Awkward Liveblog!
I decided to liveblog our first panel, I sat front row with Keith. How did it go? Hmmmm…
11:49AM: Sitting in Meeting Room 229A with the guys. Chillin’. Eleven minutes to show time. Thinking of ways I can shoot and model awkwardly.
11:51AM: Realizing my Chromebook is missing a rubber foot, a sticky, gaping maw replaces it. Where did it go? Better search my bag.
11:53AM: Still searching for the rubber foot. Has anyone seen it?
Day Zero Wrap-Up: A Dessert of Deserts
I really didn’t know what to think going into my first day at a Comic-Con (or Comicon as the Phoenix crew puts it). We knew that this first day was going to be a short day (it ran a weird 6PM to 11:30PM) and there were no major events planned, so, like, what to do…
Hello, Phoenix!
It’s hot here. When Kelly and I left the Springs yesterday, it was overcast and fifty degrees. When we arrived in Arizona’s capital yesterday, it was significantly warmer, despite being past sunset.

Alan Wake: A Year Later
The Collector’s Edition. The game. The soundtrack. The bonus disc with extra themes. The universe-building book told from an unseen in-universe character. The Collector’s Edition of the strategy guide. The strategy guide itself. The hardcover book that covered the game’s five-plus years of development, revealing juicy details about so many elements that didn’t make the game. For nearly $100, I bought into the Alan Wake launch to the largest extent I possibly could. Unfortunately, there just weren’t enough of us to bend the world in the way that Remedy needed us to. What happened?
Why Foursquare Is Awesome
It was about a year ago that I decided to try out Foursquare. I loaded the app up on my Palm Pre and checked in at Safeway, which I visited regularly. When Twitter released, it had (and still has) that niggling aspect that people will use the tech to overshare. People don’t care if you’re brushing your teeth or eating dinner or whatever. In Foursquare, people don’t need to know where you’re at at all times. To a further extreme (say, the recently defunct Blippy) people don’t need to know what you’re spending your money on, with the info pulling straight from your bank account. But like all good things, moderation is the best policy.

Is A Good Article Worth $1.99?
“The Final Hours of Portal 2” seems like a celebratory experiment in an era where print magazines are failing and their tablet-friendly versions are doing even worse. Like music a decade ago, people are finding that discrete tomes of editorialized content are worth less than ever before. So what makes this glorified cover article so different?
