NOOOOOOOOO, Not Marble Blast Ultra!!!!!
It couldn’t have happened to a better game: Marble Blast Ultra, the best marble simulator/platformer ever released is now gone forever.
Well, maybe not forever, but indefinitely.
Movie Review: Hanna
This review was provided by guest contributor Dad.
Beware readers – I pick nits. Hanna was good, but not great. It is a fun movie if you enjoy dumb action movies. You’ll come out of it thinking you’ve done something cerebral. There are several points that had the crowd laughing; and few well-telegraphed scenes aside, it was relatively safe for my eight year old to come along and see it with the Lovely Wife and me. The Chemical Brothers provide an entertaining soundtrack. Go see it, have fun, and try not to think too hard. You’ll have a good time :)
Movie Review: Arthur
Ladies and gentlemen (mostly the latter), I have fallen in love with a woman. Everyone always says they know ‘hotter chicks’ down at the local grocery store/commissary/strip club, but they peak in one area: shallowness. In this film, I have met a woman I could love until I died. Or my heart fell out, although that would surely lead to… whatever. Anyway, my point is that this woman is magic. In the real world, she’s known as Greta Gerwig. In this piece, she’s known as Naomi. And she’s a hero. Of my heart.
Nick’s Most Anticipated Albums of 2011!
This year’s been pretty flat in terms of new music. The new Strokes was aight, there hasn’t been any good indie rap, and I’ve been feeding on a lot of leftovers I looked over from previous years. But, the rest of the year? Looking pretty sexy…
Minecraft Becomes Real Game on 11/11/11
When I was unemployed, and still poor, Kelly convinced me to finally plunk down the fifteen Euros (or whatever it is in real, American currency) for Minecraft. I had played the web-based version some months prior and I thought it was cute, but it wasn’t very fulfilling just playing by myself. Kelly put up a server and we began to build a massive fort, populating it with junk like elaborate spiral staircases, gardens, and so on. With nothing better to do, I was up until five or six in the morning on more than one occasion crafting, mining, building, mining, crafting, building…
I Didn’t Like Toy Story 3 As Much As You Did
I grew up on computer animation. Dad would go out and buy or rent any compilation he could find of the stuff and we’d watch it as soon as we brought it home. This was long before movies were almost completely fabricated with it, back when CGI was used for experimental proof-of-concept stuff. So it’s no surprise that at age 11, I was super excited to see Toy Story – my brother and I quoting every line from the trailers as we waited – and it was one of the greatest films I’d ever seen. When Toy Story 2 released an eternity later (four years, anyway), it was far more epic and incredible than the original. Strangely, I had intended to see the third film on opening day, but… I just never did. And when it released on optical media, I just never picked it up ($29.99 for the Blu-ray edition is extortion). So when I found it on Netflix Instant at 2AM, I decided to settle down and finally see it. So are my impressions of the film based on a self-fulfilling prophecy? Read on…
FEZ Interviews: Screened.com’s Matt Rorie!
I recently had the opportunity to interview Matt Rorie, super cool guy and editor for Whiskey Media’s movie site, Screened. Matt, like the legendary Prometheus, graced us with his fire as I prodded him for insight on life as a movie journalist and more important things: like Babylon 5. Read on after the break!
The Engadget Eight Land, Give Us New Podcast
We made some comments earlier about how Editor-in-Chief Joshua Topolsky’s departure – as well as seven others from Engadget – seemed to signal the beginning of the end for the site. We were right. While the remaining Engadget staff is a great crew, There’s little doubt in my mind that Aol is going to screw everything up and that somehow the exodus has robbed the tech/gadget blog of a lot of its great talent.
Game Informer Has An Hour-Long Documentary On Volition
I’ve played more Descent than I can remember. And its sequel. And Freespace. And its sequel. My point is that I’ve always had a soft spot for Volition, Inc. On a trip to Champaign, Illinois to break us all the coverage about Saints Row: The Third, Game Informer managed to turn a series of interviews with the team into an hour-long documentary about the 18-year history of Volition.
James Cameron Seeks To Make Movies Look Crappier
Dear James Cameron,
It was pretty awesome when you made Terminator 2 because you proved to us that an insanely-budgeted, explosion-filled flick with a super-popular actor playing a killer robot could be pulled off. It was cute when you did Titanic with another insanely high budget (and a partially nude Kate Winslet) and made all that money. It was silly when you did Avatar, made even more money, and inspired a legion of knock-off films with 3D effects that some of us can’t even see. With this new thing, though… c’mon now.
