Well, that was fast. For some time now, Maxis has claimed that to turn off two of the biggest dings against SimCity, those being the persistent online connection and the small city lot sizes, would require an extensive engineering effort to replace. As this video shows, however, it’s only a matter of accessing a debug menu before you can play offline indefinitely and modify the region’s highway structure. Maxis, you have some ‘splainin’ to do!

It’s been almost five months since Windows 8 launched and the ecosystem is still suffering a bit. I love crappy games and half-assed Metro (sorry, Modern UI) apps as much as the next guy, but today that desperation clears up just a small amount. That’s right: Twitter has brought us a native app.

Google Reader fans, I feel your pain. A little. When Twitter announced they were shutting down TweetDeck for Android, I was just a little sad. Google announced today that, as you can see, the program would be vanquished from the Earth on July 1, 2013, as part of their seasonal product cleansing. Built to handle RSS, Reader let you pull in streams of content from across the internet, be it articles, podcasts, or whatever, and have it in exactly one location. I’m just guessing though, I never used it.

StarDrive, a new space-based, 4X-style strategy game, started its public speaking life as a humble $7,000 Kickstarter at the tail end of 2011. Not only did it meet its goal, but it do so nearly three times over and won the publisher guidance of Iceberg Interactive, who gave us last summer’s bland Master of Orion-like Endless Space. Now in a public beta, available if you purchase the game through Steam, I got a good hands-on with this little empire builder.

Long before Mass Effect or Star Wars The Old Republic, Bioware was a humble studio making complex RPGs for Interplay. Their breakthrough was Baldur’s Gate, a game that was remastered by Overhaul Games for iPad last year. Now they’re turning their eyes to Android and they need your help.

At times, Minecraft seems like a profitable venture despite itself. Sure, you can play it offline, but if you’re looking to get some real multiplayer action going on, setting up a server is no easy task. This is particularly true for the younger elements of the audience, which is actually a pretty big portion of who plays the game to begin with. Mojang has a solution though, one that CEO Carl Manneh hopes will “bring in more money than Minecraft itself”.

I’m not sure where the prancer comes into the song, but I’m sure it’s buried in there.
Look, I’m not here to provide you with some in-depth breakdown about Dillinger Escape Plan or how their lead singer felt inspired by the current global socio-economic conflict while making this album – I don’t really know – I just wanted to post a new DEP single. What may come across as a wall of guitar-based noise was actually my cup of tea during some audio experimentation in my radio rock days. I wanted something a bit more extreme than Creed and Disturbed and DEP’s Miss Machine fulfilled my taste for something more extreme. Of course, I didn’t really fall in this direction very far and I didn’t care much for their follow-up Ire Works, but I’m really just kinda glad they exist. I’ve included their new single below!
