New ‘Iron Man 3’ Trailer Arrives, Finally Convinces Me To See It [VIDEO]
“I’m just gonna get a gyro or something. Anyone want anything?”
I don’t know guys, that last Iron Man 3 trailer was pretty weird. Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin drawl was a weird way to narrate the trailer, we saw Stark’s mansion blow up yet again, and it just, tonally, didn’t sit well with me. Fast forward to today when a much grander trailer is available to fill in some of those gaps left behind by that first look.
Twitter Discontinuing TweetDeck Apps, I Can Not Stop Crying
TweetDeck was one of the first regular Android apps with a widget that served as a landmark on my home screen for years. No longer.
Okay, hang on guys. *sob* Sorry, just have to compose myself a little. *sniff* So, today TweetDeck made the announcement that they would be discontinuing their app across Android, iOS, and the PC, but will maintain their web app for desktops. Despite giving the desktop version a positive note when it released, I haven’t had a reason to keep it open until recently. The loss of the Android app, however, is huge.
Garrett Returns: New ‘Thief’ Title Revealed In Game Informer, Due Out 2014 [VIDEO]
Our good pal Garrett as he appears on Game Informer’s April cover.
Did you know that for many years after the release of Doom, all you could do in first-person shooters was shoot things? I know, right? When Thief: The Dark Project came along in 1998, it blew so many minds, mine included, when it challenged you to hide in shadows and cover your steps as you burgled every shiny thing that caught your eye. Set in a dark, Victorian-themed world of nightmares and the supernatural, Thief spawned several sequels (although the third game featured many of the same flaws as its sister game at Ion Storm, Deus Ex: Invisible War), but has otherwise been out of the limelight – perhaps fittingly – since 2004. Prep your arrows, thieves, we go back in soon.
Apple No Longer World’s Most Valuable Company, Is Also Doomed
Doom, gloom, boom, other words.
When someone, whether it’s us or some leading market analyst on CNBC, yammers on about a company’s value, one must always take in a few notes of salt. Following Steve Jobs’ death, Apple’s stock climbed through the roof to a peak of over $700 this past September, with many expecting it to hit $1,000. Of course, stocks will be stocks and much of that value was speculative. Now the price is coming right on back to Earth.
‘XCOM’ Meets Guys In Big, Heavy Armor: New ‘Space Hulk’ Screens Emerge
GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER
Before X-COM, there was Warhammer 40,000 and there was Aliens. Well, sometime after that, the creative minds at Games Workshop decided the twain shall meet, coming up with a tabletop game (and later PC favorite) that featured men in large suits battling dastardly Genestealers in derelict space wrecks. It’s not hard to see where Space Hulk inspired a legion of games, most notably StarCraft, and while long dormant as a video game franchise, Space Hulk is coming back in a big way for PC, Mac, and iOS, complete with multi-platform play.
Samsung Just Watched Richie Rich, Wants Galaxy S4 Unveiling To Be Just Like That
OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY
Oh, which kid wouldn’t want to be young Jeremy Maxwell? The rich kid with the all-too-nice chauffeur is tasked with guarding Samsung’s new Galaxy S4, which will undoubtedly be the year’s best-selling phone worldwide. While it seems like there’s just a light bulb inside, Jeremy must guard it against the horrors of mild Suburbia and a pesky neighbor girl who’s “going to get you, Maxwell!” I’m glad someone at Samsung watched Macaulay Culkin films while sick and then spent all night having fevered dreams, because that’s exactly what this ad is. I’ve included it below, natch.
Is The World Ready For ‘Portal R&D’, A Sitcom-style Web Series?
It’s funny because it’s true.
It wasn’t long into the new teaser for Wayside Creations’ new Portal-based web series that I thought I was watching a corny facsimile of Better Off Ted, a series that starred a multi-national conglomerate and its expanse of wacky experiments. Portal seems to provide plenty of material for such a series as this new show – aptly named Portal R&D – takes place before whatever crazy cacophony got Aperture’s labs shut down in the first place. I’ve included the trailer below as well as a link to the group’s original ground-breaking work, Fallout: Nuka Break.
With 500,000 Subscribers, There’s Never Been A Better Time To Join EVE Online
Look at all those stars…
Like any online community, the more people are involved, the better the experience gets. This is true of social networks like the good ol’ MySpace, Facebook, but it holds particularly true for EVE Online where all players share the same universe. In other MMOs where a server contains a population of only a few thousand people, even when consolidation happens, you’re always going to feel like you’re amongst a crowd. With EVE, the universe changes drastically based on how many total subscribers you have.
Getting Fired From Best Buy For Posting Pictures On The Internet: A Long, Cautionary Tale
What seems like an innocuous snap, tweet, or comment can become very severe when exposed to a corporate legal department.
Look at your social feeds: Facebook, Twitter, Path, whatever rows your boat. Find your friends. Look for when they talk about a bad experience they had on the job, like a customer that put them in a torrid mood or a manager who won’t stop doing that one irritating thing. Look for a picture of a cube-mate smiling while delicate company info hangs blurry in the background. All of these individual things may seem pretty harmless, but it wouldn’t take long for someone you know – or simply someone who has access to your comments and pictures – to build a case of insubordination against you, one that will be nearly impossible to refute. You can lose your job.
I did.
It’s been nearly a thousand days since my ten-plus year employment with Best Buy was terminated and I’ve gone to many of my friends in the media hoping to bring my story to light, not out of any sort of sense of revenge, obviously my digs are far fancier now, but as a warning to others. Companies pretend that they’re training their employees on how easily their social media policies can be violated, but there’s rarely a reprimand when such a violation occurs; the solution is usually termination. This seems particularly important in an age where we’re sharing information faster and more often than ever before. The events surrounding my own dismissal were incredibly personal and highly embarrassing, but in the end, I had to be the one to tell my story.
FleshEatingZipper Goes For The Big Leagues: Creates Office, Adds First Employee!
Hello! You’ll be seeing a lot more of me now!
When we rang in the New Year, we promised some big changes for the site. Rob highlighted a smattering of them, but now it’s time for these designs to become real. Over the next few weeks, FleshEatingZipper is going to undergo some radical changes that will result in a lot of cool new content. By a lot, I mean, a lot. FleshEatingZipper is, after all, a bootstrap startup, which means we’re a company that’s building up our empire on our own efforts without (so far) any external support, like funding. So, here are the big changes:
