Fuel Overdose (PSN) Review: Combat Racing With A Really Bad Anime Fever

It’s a post-apocalyptic combat racer, guys. Really!

After the apocalypse, combat racing will become the sport of choice. I can tell because no other machine gun-spewing, rocket-launching racing game feels right unless it’s set in some tragic version of paradise. Fuel Overdose is a pretty solid car combat game that has the unfortunate attribute of being poorly presented in nearly every facet.

THQ Files For Bankruptcy, Is Not Dead

Still no Red Faction, though.

Well, we guess it was coming. THQ’s been on some shaky ground for a few years now and as many speculated, they were on the fast track to bankruptcy protection, or worse, dissolution. Today was that day, but thankfully it’s not all bad. With the acquisition of Naughty Dog co-founder Jason Rubin as President and director of THQ’s games going forward, things were starting to look up, but he had little chance to save the company from its inevitable bankruptcy filing. So what’s changing? Not much, apparently.

Forza Horizon Rally Pack DLC Review: Such A Tease

Forza Horizon Rally Pack DLC Review: Such A Tease

Get your mid-European racing action here!

I love Forza Horizon. Love the daylights out of it. Despite its variety of events, including mixed-terrain shindigs and Need for Speed-style street races, it didn’t feature any traditional rally races. I’m not sure where the demand came from, but the brilliant team at Playground Games has issued a new Rally Pack for the game that may satiate your lust for stripped down cars sloshing through rough point to point courses. It’s an interesting experiment, but is it worth the $20 fee?

Philips Invents Way To Make Lights Out Of Surfaces, Is So Awesome

The resolution isn’t great yet, but hey, they’re working on it.

We’ve been awfully fascinated lately with lighting. We’re hip on what’s hip, so when it comes to the light bulb, arguably the information age’s most important invention, we’re of the opinion that it’s way out of chic. We don’t just want neutral, pointed light. We wanted in different colors, we want it to have themes, we just want something that isn’t just the damn light bulb. Philips is hearing our call by showing us the future in which any surface could potentially be a light. Awesome, right?

Twitter: Hurry Up And Let Me Download My Tweet Archive

Hmmm, that Klout could be a little higher…

When Facebook launched Timeline last year, I was super excited. Yeah, lots of people moaned about the new layout because that’s their prerogative, but my favorite addition was the ability to easily view my older posts. Rather than forcing you to keep loading an infinite log of past entries until your browser crashed, the Timeline allows you to simply pick a portion of time and see what you were doing back then. I’m not happy with the fact that they abbreviated much of that content, but c’est la vie. Twitter, however, has abstained from letting you view your oldest content for, as they describe, technical reasons. Well, it looks like it won’t be long until you can see your earliest content. That’s probably scarier than it sounds.

SimCity Requires Internet Connection At All Times, Will Not Let You Save Cities Without It

All this can be yours… if you don’t lose your wireless signal.

Reddit is currently running an AMA (Ask Me Anything) with members of SimCity’s development team over at Maxis where they respond to questions from the community-at-large. The biggest revelation? Your copy of SimCity will need to be permanently connected to the internet or you’ll lose your city save. A terrible thing or overblown dramatics?

Samsung, Does The World Need A Phone With A 6.3″ Display?

Samsung, Does The World Need A Phone With A 6.3″ Display?

Like this, but a little smaller. Not by much.

Word is leaking around the globe that the next iteration of Samsung’s mammoth Galaxy Note phone (or phone/tablet (or phablet)) is expected to hit a gargantuan 6.3″ next year. That’s pretty ridiculous, but Samsung claims that it’s filling a gap in their size spectrum between their popular smartphones and their smallest tablets. Considering the success of their Note phones (despite some industry expectations), it makes sense that bigger might be better, but how big is too big?

That’s Odd: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Kinda Sucks

The Dwarven Abercrombie & Fitch Calendar

Okay guys, I’m not a big fantasy buff. Yeah, I’m a super nerd, sure, but Lord of the Rings was simply never fascinating. I was a Fallout kid, not a child of D&D. I liked Star Wars, but not The Hobbit. Snooze. Despite my disposition though, I really enjoyed Peter Jackson’s films (and could, as a once-future animator, enjoy Ralph Bakshi’s version), but only in a well, I never need to see these again sorta way. It’s been nine years and after some legal issues/politicking at New Line Cinema, Peter Jackson has finally brought us The Hobbit, except instead of taking a brief approach to a brief book, they decided to expand it to an entirely new trilogy. Early reviews have not been kind on the new film (which holds a 69% at Rotten Tomatoes, nearly 30 points lower than any of the Lord of the Rings films) and I imagine the sequels are going to have an even harder time when they release next year and in 2014. What is the industry saying? Well…
