Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Reveals Sinister Villain, Far Too Much CG
“No, Captain Kirk, I expect you to die!”
Paramount has just revealed the first trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness, the sequel to 2009’s Star Trek, and it’s heavy on the cinematics. Both directed by the lensflare-happy J.J. Abrams, Into Darkness expands on the last film’s reboot/spinoff of the titanic science fiction franchise with a new villain (played by the apparently devilish Benedict Cumberbatch) and a newly-minted Captain Kirk. Admittedly, I’m not as hot on this flick’s reveal as I was the 2009 film, but why? Let me explain.
Wii U’s Best Game – Panorama App – Will Be Available In Spring
All of this fun can be yours.
The Wii U launch has been a bit of hit and mostly miss with native games that are barely taking advantage of the hardware, few effectively taking advantage of its tablet (a complaint that could be leveled at the DS when it launched) and ports of high-profile games from other platforms not performing as well and definitely rating low. So what does the Wii U have up its sleeve beyond more Mario-themed games? Why, it’s the best Panorama App you’ll ever ever use, probably, and it’s out this Spring.
‘Anomaly: Warzone Earth’ (PSN) Review: A Solid Anti-Tower Defense
Spawn that vehicle! No, repair it! No, arggggh!!
Despite being relatively new to gaming and having a few champions in the form of League of Legends or Fieldrunners, tower defense games are getting a little old. People have tried to change them up, add different units, change the perspective, mod them into games, and put them on every platform possible, but the tower defense design is only so expandable. So what do you do? You flip it on its head, just like Anomoly: Warzone Earth has. It debuted on the PC a little over a year ago, but only recently landed on the shores of PSN, so how does the port handle? Really well, actually.
Every Apple TV Ad Ever: From “1984” To Siri
Apple made a lot of iPad commercials. Just FYI.
Well, here it is: every single ad Apple ever put to TV. I’m sure it’s not every single one, but with a playlist featuring 485 entries, it’s probably more than you’ve ever known about. Covering a period from 1977 onward, this reveals quite a few surprises, quite a few great ones and a number of bad ones (Will Ferrell pimping Apple products? Huh?). What are some highlights? I’ll explain and include the video below!
Because They’re Crazy: RED To Offer Player/Marketplace For 4K Ultra-HD Content
It’s ridiculous, but it’s fantastic.
Just as America is transitioning to high-definition – a move that’s taken over fifteen years – the studios and technologists are ready for the next wave of high-resolution displays. I’ve said a few words about 4K, which features four times the pixels of a “Full HD” 1080p display, and how unrealistic it is to have in the home because the size of the display required (or how close you’d need to sit next to it) to even see that many pixels is impractical for anyone. Nevertheless, RED has a solution!
‘The Walking Dead’ Review: Season 3, Episode 8 – “Made To Suffer”
What a twist!
If you’ve seen this episode, then your mind is probably still blown. Let’s dive into the juicy, rotting innards of The Walking Dead’s mid-season finale! As always: SPOILERS!
‘Teleglitch’ Review: Mouse-Tossing Aliens-Inspired Diablo-Like RPG-Shooter [VIDEO]
Old school shootin’ action!
Roguelike. You’ve probably heard the term before, I had to read up on it before doing this review, even, but it’s used to describe a particular kind of RPG. It’s been so long since I’d played a genuine one, way back on dad’s Atari ST, but you’ll find modern descendants like Diablo or Torchlight, In essence, a Roguelike is a dungeon crawler, but pure specimens are insanely difficult and have a more primitive presentation. Teleglitch is the latest addition to this batch of stylistic shooters/RPGs, hailing from a handful of developers who have been working on this for the past three years. It shows, but how does it play?
Humble THQ Bundle Is Out, Includes Some Fantastic Releases For Charity
Get all these games for relatively few dollars!
While THQ seems to be in a position to need financial aid here soon, that’s not stopping the company from putting up a smattering of games from its recent catalog to help charity (or not, you decide!) for the price of… well, you decide that, too. How good are THQ’s offerings? Pretty darn good.
Halo 4 ‘Forward Unto Dawn’ Blu-Ray Review: Plenty For The Fans
Stoic, always stoic.
It’s easy, probably too easy, to pass off the Halo 4 web series Forward Unto Dawn as merely a piece of marketing. That’s what it is, but it’s also a pretty good expansion of the Halo universe. I only caught the first of five parts when it debuted online because I honestly wasn’t interested in seeing it in 15 minutes chunks meted out every week, but watching it all in full definition Blu-ray end to end is easily the best way to enjoy the saga and an enjoyable morsel of Halo legacy.
Why Does Xbox Music Feel Like A Huge Step Back From Zune?
Where did this go, among other questions.
I’ve had Windows 8 on this machine for over a month now – hard to believe – and it’s only recently that I’ve dug into the Xbox Music app that’s baked right into the operating system. You’d figure after a long history of Zune, it’d be one of the first things I tackle, but Microsoft’s had a spotty record with updating their software to, y’know, compete. Xbox Music, for the most part, works exactly as advertised, but there are some large, gaping holes where some pleasurable functionality just isn’t there. Why?
