I Hate SimCity Social

I Hate SimCity Social

I wish there was a way this game could be more despicably evil.

SimCity Social is a vile piece of shit. How dare you, Electronic Arts. You’d let my favored city management sim languish for years before building my hopes up with next year’s big release. Now you seek to tarnish not only SimCity’s reputation, but yours further, Electronic Arts already known as the worst company in America. While Zynga defined these games, Flash-based Facebook titles that forge and perpetuate a dependency on their slow-drip gameplay littered with microtransactions, EA deserves every last lashing for replicating their ruthlessness to the T. With absolutely no shame in their hearts, EA has produced a game on the whims of a meeting room full of Six Sigma-dieting MBAs that vow to sleaze up Facebook gaming to whatever profitable tangent possible. The world, nay, humanity, is worse off for it.

The Nintendo 3DS XL, A Stab In The Dark

The Nintendo 3DS XL, A Stab In The Dark

I’ve expressed my thoughts on the 3DS during E3 with Nintendo demonstrating they weren’t joyous about the handheld’s future. But the reality is here: the 3DS is Nintendo’s main handheld and Nintendo needs a main handheld to keep their margins thick. Nintendo iterates on their hardware more often than they release flagship Mario titles and this new, gargantuan 3DS that features screens that feature nearly double the real estate as their previous iteration. Is this a stroke of genius?

Nexus Q Challenges Our Opinions On Tech Made Overseas

At their big I/O conference, among other things, Google announced the Nexus Q, a new streaming box. It’s a bizarre looking little ball with a variety of cords that stream from its rear, designed to be not only a competitor to Boxee, Roku, and Apple TV, but also a handy device that allows your Android phone to interface with your TV/home theater setup. The biggest difference to most people, aside from the ecosystem, is that they’re being made in the United States and there’s a premium price that comes with that.

Five Things A 24-Hour Star Trek Movie Marathon Will Teach You

Five Things A 24-Hour Star Trek Movie Marathon Will Teach You

This past weekend I engaged in some major crazy Star Trek movie marathoning. Most of them I hadn’t seen in almost a decade and never had I seen more than three consecutively. I lived (somehow), but by the time everything was over – well, any time you commit twenty-four hours to something like that – you get slightly disoriented and then, well, your weekend is over. It’s hard to recommend such an epic task, but I learned some things about Star Trek in doing so.

Shiny Toy Guns’ “Waiting Alone” – The First Single Off III – Is Available Now

It’s about bloody time. Many like myself have been waiting ages for the newest Shiny Toy Guns album – only their third ever – to finally emerge from the shroud of darkness and infiltrate our music players. The album, appropriately titled III, was on my watchlist last year when it was still slated for summer. Then it slid to fall. And then spring, and then we’re back at summer again and it’s still not out. They’re announcing the release date tomorrow, but it’s looking like Fall again now. Seriously guys, c’mon.

$99 Xbox 360 + Kinect Bundle: Now Available At Stores You Go To

A few months ago, Microsoft unveiled a new $99 Xbox 360/Kinect bundle that was subsidized by a $15/month subscription and we called it the way of the future. Well, not quite, but the offer was only available at Microsoft Stores. Who goes there? What is that, even?
