Plenty of exciting biomes to get your Elder Scrolls on with.
This morning I got my hands on Bethesda’s new epic new MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online. It was a brief session, only about half an hour, but it was enough to get a good first impression of what the new online team’s been putting together for so many years. If you’re looking for a traditional Elder Scrolls game though, you’re going to be plenty surprised.
1. It Ain’t Pretty
The textures are refined, the models aren’t bad, but the game isn’t a looker by Elder Scrolls standards. It shaves off a lot of the special post-processing effects of modern PC games (or, say, 2006’s Oblivion) in favor of bringing 200 people on-screen at a time. Oh, it’s fine for World of Warcraft fans, but it’s not up to the standard they’ve been talking about for nearly a decade.
