Instagram For Android Review: Are We Doomed?
I hate post-processed photos. Hate, hate, hate. With the rise of smartphones have come tools powerful enough to not only take high-resolution pictures, but also reprocess them with crazy filters, color correction and so forth enabling otherwise shoddy photographers some light sense of professionalism and visual taste. No app encapsulates this utility – or pretentiousness – better than Instagram, which until today had been exclusive to iOS devices. Now that it’s on a platform that we actually use around the FEZ office (take that, Kelly!), and available to now millions more users out there with Android phones, we can finally render a real review by actual professionals. So how is it, aside from being hipster bait? Well…
Should You Buy A New Phone Right Now?
Buying new technology is always a risk. Anything you buy’s going to be obsolete in a week or two, anyway. But as we near summer and do that ‘go outside’ thing more often, millions of us are looking to upgrade their phones. Sure, there are new releases, like HTC’s One X, but is this really the best time to do it? Can’t you wait a little bit? I’ll cover the pros and cons.
Is Facebook’s Timeline Erasing Your History?
Now that everyone has Facebook’s latest Timeline layout, an expansive format that allows you to dip back all the way to your birthday, it’s easier to get a feel for what works and what doesn’t. I had some complaints about it when it originally launched for developers back in September and while few have been addressed and many others can be looked over, there’s one critical flaw to Facebook’s Timeline that I honestly didn’t realize until now: Facebook is more than happy to leave out a lot of your special moments to condense the look.
The Pirate Bay Setting Sail for the Skies with Low Orbit Server Stations
The Pirate Bay has been in the cross-hairs of pretty much every government authority to shut them down for copyright infringement. Yesterday, they announced that they plan to take the fight to the skies, because land isn’t safe anymore, with Low Orbit Server Stations of LOSS for short. Read the rest of this article…
A More Beautiful Web With Internet Explorer
Microsoft wants to fight. With Xbox, it was against the PlayStation 2. With Windows Phone, it’s against other phones. With Internet Explorer, it’s against the world. Not content at this point to let other browsers slip by in marketshare (like fast-rising Chrome), Microsoft wants to show us with Internet Explorer 9 that it’s got it going on (like the Backstreet Boys, who are always awesome). Since Internet Explorer 9 is happy to be a sponsor of FleshEatingZipper, we’re more than happy to give them the spotlight! Read the rest of this article…
This Is Our Review For The New iPad. It Is Exactly The Same As All The Others.
This is all so stupid. Starting last night, every last venue on the internet is going to acquire (or be given, if your last name ends in Mossberg and begins with Walt) a new iPad for review. And they’re going to universally praise it. And they’re going to say the exact same things about the exact same stuff. Every single time. So these thousands of outlets march in unison to say the exact same thing about a product that everyone’s already going to buy. So what’s so cool about this new iPad? Should you buy it? Chances are, you’ve already made that decision. Months ago. So why not read our review, in which we have no iPad at all? Let’s just say… it’ll be educational.
OnLive Desktop Running Windows May Be Illegal
Just when you were taught that running a full scale desktop OS on a tablet is the worst experience ever… OnLive, the cloud gaming platform that never really did catch on, created an iPad app not to long ago that let you remotely use your Windows computer through the iPad. While there are some legitimate uses for this, mostly using Microsoft Office or accessing files that are tucked away on your desktop PC, it appears OnLive could be in some trouble.
The Because Everyone Else Has an iPad Article, Article
I couldn’t resist not writing an article about The new iPad even though we try to stay away from stories that everyone writes about. We’re small and not at these events and I was on GDGT and The Verge watching their live blogs just like all of you guys! I don’t personally own an iPad, I’ve used them but I don’t really need one. Sure, toys are fun but I don’t think I would use it as much as I do my computer and phone. Read the rest of this article…
Full Body Scanners May Be Easily Bypassed
The other day, Jonathan Corbett posted a video that went viral on what he claims are ways to bypass the full body scanners that the TSA uses easily. This video went viral because it looks like it would work. So how easy was it and what did Jonathan do? Read the rest of this article…
LulzSec In Jail, So Now What?
Today, the FBI announced that they had found and arrested the hackers behind LulzSec, a group that had spent the latter half of 2011 shutting down large web sites and causing what may end up being billions of dollars in damages on a whim. The arrests took place as early as last June when the Bureau brought in Hector “Duck Face” Monsegur (above) to serve as a double agent and track down the others in the group. As Sabu, leader of LulzSec, Hector now faces up to 124 years in prison for his crimes, all committed for the lulz. But with this massive operation now out of the way and some of the most vile hackers known on the internet now in custody, where does that leave us?
