I Interviewed For Apple And Survived

MacRumors.com posted an article about Apple retail store employees and how they deal with customers, product launchers and so on. I thought, why not take one step backwards and explain the process of becoming an Apple employee…

Skype Will Hire Nokia Engineers

Remember all those Nokia employee’s that walked out? Well they returned to work on Monday but it looks like there may be job cuts over a Nokia. Skype CEO Tony Bates told Yahoo “Our primary engineering focus just so happens to be somewhere between Finland, Estonia and Stockholm, so you can imagine that’s a great opportunity and we’re hiring.”

Looks like it will be an easy transition for some of those engineers that are unhappy with their jobs now. We use Skype when recording our podcasts so we’re not against this.

Motorola Xoom Priced at $799

It looks like we have some solid pricing for the Motorola Xoom. Reuters is reporting that the Verizon 3G and WiFi version will run $799 and the WiFi only will be about $600, probably $599.

It actually looks pretty good despite the Motorola name. Here are the official specs: Read the rest of this article…

Apple is Being a Bunch of Dicks

When you buy an app for your iPhone, iPod or iPad 30% of the cost goes to Apple, this is how it’s always been and developers have been pretty okay with that. Now though Apple is taking that 30% and charging developers based on their subscriptions. What does that mean? Read the rest of this article…

Really? Screw You US Broadband Providers!

This just pisses me off. In Hong Kong you can get 1 Gbps internet access for only $26/month. I’ve always known that you can get faster internet access in other countries but I didn’t know they were so cheap. Read the rest of this article…

Posted by: on February 14, 2011 at 8:11 pm

This isn’t good for Best Buy. TechForward filed a lawsuit saying that Best Buy was testing TechForward’s buy back program in select stores and a year later Best Buy stopped doing business with TechForward, launching their own buy back program with an almost identical name and terms. Pandora Filing for IPO

As I’m writing this article, I’m listening to music from Pandora (80’s, 90’s and Today if you’re curious). The other day they filed for IPO, which would make it a publicly traded company on the US stock market. What’s crazy about that is that the site is essentially one page with a Flash player on it and an ad. How can they possibly be making enough money to expect people to want to invest in them? 80 million users is how. Read the rest of this article…

My Love Affair With @Twitter Is Ending

I remember it like it happened yesterday: I was sitting on the bow of a dinner yacht over a sunny lake in Minnesota when I got my first followers. It was July 2008 and my flip phone erupted with a beep and Twitter had notified me that my good friends @graphicnapkin and (his girlfriend) @mrlivedog were now following my tweet stream. They were, in effect, voluntarily listening to me and my thoughts. Maybe it was because they were tech-y friends who wanted to be nice, but it doesn’t matter, history is history. Let me back up and set the stage a bit, though:

1000 Employees Walk out of Nokia on Strike

1000 employees, that’s 1/3 of Nokia! They are pissed about the “partnership” with Microsoft because they know that it’s not really a partnership and more of a, thanks we got Nokia for free deal. What can we expect for Nokia now? Read the rest of this article…

The Suck Of Staying In Hotels

The Suck Of Staying In Hotels

So, I’m out of town for the next 4 days for a business conference (Who does conferences over a weekend? Seriously?) and the resort I am staying at has a secure proxy to the interwebs…pretty much like every other hotel in the world. Except that this one has a major problem.
