Thanks Obama! NASA Will Host Google Hangout With Bill Nye To Talk About Asteroids
“I never asked for this.” – President Obama
Asteroids are a prevalent threat. I don’t care how good your survival instinct is or how many cans of Spam you have stored in your concrete barrier 50 feet under the surface. (Also, can we be buddies? Just in case?) To that end, the Obama administration is allocating NASA funds to detecting and eliminating these rogue rocks. To that end, they’re enlisting Bill Nye and some past and present NASA staff to pop up on a Google Hangout this Friday to chat about asteroids.
Delay For Blizzard’s ‘Titan’ Means ‘World Of Warcraft’ Needs To Hold Up A Bit Longer
Hold in there, little buddy!
Word is spreading across the internet that Blizzard’s long-gestating MMO followup, codenamed “Titan”, is on the skids and they’re rebooting the whole thing. The staff has been slashed and they’re now back to zero. While few details exist about the company’s follow-up to the nearly decade-old World of Warcraft, the elevator pitch is that it’s a brand-new MMO and it’s science-fiction-themed. The delay, which brings its release well into the latter end of the decade, also means that World of Warcraft can’t afford much more in subscription slides.
Facebook Launches Verified Profiles So You’ll Stop Following Fakes
Know that this is the real Selena Gomez before you start liking her page.
About a year ago, I liked Alex Trebek. Not the person, as it turns out, but an imposting facsimile on Facebook. I didn’t know it was a fake until after some homework, but it made me wonder what life would be like if Facebook verified who ran different pages and whether I should bother tossing them a Like or a Friend request. Well, Facebook took a page from Twitter’s book by now adding Verified accounts.
‘Hardware: Shipbreakers’ Gameplay Revealed, Looks Like ‘Homeworld’ All Right
Survey that wreckage, then claim it!
To be honest, I didn’t even know this game existed until nearly a week ago when it popped up on our forums. Rick Cunningham, one of Relic’s co-founders, split from the company and formed Blackbird Interactive in 2010. In the three years since, it’s been working on Hardware: Shipbreakers, a free-to-play “3D Real-Time Strategy” in the veing of Homeworld, which makes sense because it’s the same guys. They’ve been broadcasting production art for a while now, but today we get to see the game in its honest, functional form.
Nokia Lumia 928 Reviews Arrive, Inspire Windows Phone Fanboy Rage
At $99 with a two-year contract, you get a decent Windows Phone and all the fanboy rage you could ever want.
Today the tech world collectively unveiled their verdict on Nokia’s Lumia 928, their exclusive Windows Phone flagship for Verizon, and it’s a “good, not great”. Like every big hard landing Nokia takes, the fanboys screamed out of the woodwork, crying foul to professional reviewers who found the phone interesting, but south of the company’s high-water mark.
Buy A $10 Theme Park For Your ‘SimCity’ Of Broken Dreams
It’s like candy, but then you remember, it’s candy.
SimCity is like that girlfriend that dumped you and just wants to move on. They still won’t atone for their devious actions, but they want the next big thing out of your non-relationship: money. Enter the new $10 Theme Park DLC for 2013’s most disappointing hooker lousy bitch game, in which you can craft your own Sim Theme Park and build out a Tourism-based city. Not that this is a City you should be touring, yet.
The N5 Show: Week #22, 2013 – E3 2004!
Listen to the old people talk about the good old days.
N, Cody, and TC sit down and chat about their first time going to E3, the fabled year of Halo 2, 2004. They chat about boring stuff you should never ever do, why you should never follow your dreams and go to E3, and why you’d totally enjoy doing just the opposite of those things. Ever been to LA? We hadn’t, either.
‘Strip Search’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 26 “On The Hunt”
Another fun challenge!
Okay, this was pretty exciting. Graham takes the remaining four out for a scavenger hunt around Seattle. Much like the Duck episode a week ago (I mean, months ago), we get to sample more of the local flavor that hosts Penny Arcade’s offices. Also, every weekend should be a 3-day weekend if it means getting to Strip Search sooner.
Will You Pay For Xbox Live Next Generation?
Good thing I just auto-renewed, right? Haha?
When Xbox Live debuted 11 years ago, it made some sense that paying $35-$50 a year for access to the service made sense. All of the competition was on broadband – none of those dial-up laggards – and everyone had a headset, among many other standard features that Microsoft required of Xbox Live developers. Now in a time when only the sturdiest of MMOs can still charge monthly for their gaming service, paying for Xbox Live makes less sense than ever. What can Microsoft do to make it a value again?
‘Minecraft’ Creators Finally Bring Us ‘Scrolls’ Beta, Plus A Launch Trailer
It’s finally here!
A lot of people may only know for about Mojang’s Scrolls from the news that Elder Scrolls maker Bethesda was suing their pants off for name conflict in one of the stupidest lawsuits ever. Well, starting next week, you can get into the public beta action by putting down a $20 pre-order at your local Scrolls.com, a domain that was probably so expensive that I’m sure Mojang would’ve cried every night had they needed to change their name.
