Angry Birds Space Arrives!… Is Definitely More Angry Birds!

Today marks the mammoth release of Angry Birds Space, the latest installment in the ubiquitous mobile gaming franchise. Space marks the first real twist in the physics-based puzzle formula as you’re no longer chucking said Angry Birds at ground-based targets, but rather a variety of ground and space-based pigs, all under the variable control of gravity.

George Takei Is The Best Thing To Hit Facebook Since…

Man, don’t you remember the days when fake celebrity accounts on Facebook were just a drag? Sure, that Free iPad sounds super great and your interloper may have spent a super long time studying up on the celebrity they’re impersonating, but once the trick’s revealed, doesn’t the trick seem… less? Riding a new wave from last May’s “It’s Okay To Be Takei“, some glorious bastard has taken up the mantle (or Takei just hired a guy) to promote it with a cleverly updated Facebook page that seems to revel in its in-authenticity. Is George Takei the best thing to ever hit Facebook? Ever?

Hulu’s Ad Tailor Thinks I’m An 18-35 Year Old Woman

I don’t like TV, but I love Hulu. Much like a DVR, it allows me to skip all the necessity of having to wait around for something I like to pop up on the screen and then watch it. I grew up on the stuff, but our relationship fell apart in much the same way that mine did with radio: having to stick around to hear people’s crappy playlists sucks. With Hulu, I can cut away time to watch a handful of shows on my own time without having to resort to piracy. But the ads on Hulu. The ads…

From IGN to VOX Games: The Gaming Journalism Universe, In Picture Form

The recent Whiskey split has been the cap on what’s been an exciting batch of changes, mergers, and acquisitions within the gaming journalism space. But few people realize how deeply rooted some of these outlets are and how many others seem to have appeared from nowhere. The industry is moving and shifting so fast because the industry it’s based on is still relatively new as well. The oldest publication we have listed here is only a few years older than I am.

’21 Jump Street’ Review – Don’t Watch This Unless You Want To Laugh Your Ass Off

’21 Jump Street’ Review – Don’t Watch This Unless You Want To Laugh Your Ass Off

At two points in the theater for 21 Jump Street, I had to physically stop myself from laughing or I would go into a spasm. This movie is fast and absurd and I haven’t seen anything this humorous in years. It’d be easy to pass this off as another ‘stupid Jonah Hill’ movie, but it’s simply got too much going on. You need to get in the theater and see it. Today.

Whiskey Media (Giant Bomb, Screened, Tested) Is Breaking Up, A Tear Runs Down My Cheek

Today, the crew of Whiskey Media’s flagship publication – Giant Bomb – went over the internet airwaves to announce that the House That Shelby Bonnie Built was being ripped in half. They, along with Comic Vine, would be headed to CBS Interactive, home of Gamespot (where many of Giant Bomb’s founders originated) while Tested, Screened, and Anime Vice would be owned by Santa Monica-based BermanBraun. Should Whiskey’s fans be happy or mad at the transaction?

Wikipedia Won The Encyclopedia War

Wikipedia Won The Encyclopedia War

Who would’ve guessed fifteen years ago that tons of credible information about virtually anything would’ve been available on the internet… for free? Unless you’re Jimmy Wales, it probably wasn’t you. When it came time to research anything of value while I was in college (despite IMDB being so awesome!), the best sources of information were still checked out of a library. Well, those times they do change. We knew that print was on the decline, but we weren’t sure how the confluence of web 2.0 and Wikipedia would spell out the doom for print encyclopedias. Well, after 250 years, Encyclopedia Britannica has announced that they’re going online exclusive and that their print volumes, which comprised 1% of their revenue last year, would be going away forever.

This Is Our Review For The New iPad. It Is Exactly The Same As All The Others.

This Is Our Review For The New iPad. It Is Exactly The Same As All The Others.

This is all so stupid. Starting last night, every last venue on the internet is going to acquire (or be given, if your last name ends in Mossberg and begins with Walt) a new iPad for review. And they’re going to universally praise it. And they’re going to say the exact same things about the exact same stuff. Every single time. So these thousands of outlets march in unison to say the exact same thing about a product that everyone’s already going to buy. So what’s so cool about this new iPad? Should you buy it? Chances are, you’ve already made that decision. Months ago. So why not read our review, in which we have no iPad at all? Let’s just say… it’ll be educational.

The New SimCity: Electronic Arts Has A Lot To Prove

The New SimCity: Electronic Arts Has A Lot To Prove

SimCity peaked early on. With the series’ graduation to an isometric perspective (something that made it instantly memorable) and tons more simulations running in parallel, it appears that Electronic Arts was content with merely refining the formula after SimCity 2000 released in 1993. It’s not that its successors were dreadful by any means (although history hasn’t been kind to SimCity Societies), it’s that they didn’t feel like they were trying to build a better city building game and move the genre forward, but merely make a better SimCity game. But with the recent announcement of a new title, one named simply ‘SimCity’, there’s a lot of hopes and doubts about how well Maxis (and EA) is going to handle what’s essentially a reboot of the franchise.
