The Great Hyperspace War
This war spanned the entire Galactic Republic but was primarily focused and fought on 3 Republic worlds : Coruscant, Koros Major and Kirrek, though it did spill over onto other worlds and then, eventually, onto Korriban itself.
The Dark Lord Marka Ragnos had just died and 2 Sith – Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh were vying for power. Through some trickery and typical Sith underhandedness, Naga Sadow made it appear as of a pair of convicted spies had been rescued by the Republic, in order to gain support for him picking a fight with them. He plotted well enough that his rival, Kressh, attacked him and was seemingly destroyed, leaving Naga Sadow to become the new Dark Lord of the Sith.
With this, he began his invasion of Republic Space.
Again, the republic was slow to respond. Between their endless bureaucratic processes and their refusal to believe that the Sith had returned, they were so slow that the Sith managed to spread across the galaxy and land in the middle of the legislative district on the Republic capital world of Coruscant, meeting unprepared Jedi defenders there.
Unfortunately for the Sith, it was discovered that Sadow had used illusion to make his force appear much larger than it really was. When this was discovered, the tide of the conflict turned against him almost immediately. Sadow managed to escape, causing a star to go supernova in the process, and retreated back to Korriban where he found Ludo Kressh quite alive and waiting to ambush him.
Kressh ended up being killed when one of Naga Sadow’s ships rammed his own during the battle over Korriban, soon after which Republic forces arrived, aided by the betrayal of Sadow’s apprentice who gave the coordinates of the Sith homeworld to the Republic, just before being killed by the exploding star. With the Sith still engaged in combat with one another, the Republic forces were able to almost effortlessly destroy the Sith over Korriban while Sadow ran in his damaged ship.
After this, the Republic leadership ordered an immediate invasion of Sith space and the total destruction of any and all remaining Sith followers. The republic was forced to retreat when the Sith started using suicide tactics against them but were able to destroy a large percentage of the remaining Sith. Unfortunately for the Republic however, they foolishly chose to withdraw back to their peaceful lives, once again, before the Sith. were exterminated.
Yeah…that was dumb.
