CES 2013: Audi, Lexus Show Off Useless Self-Parking Car Tech
Imagine this car parking itself.
Guys, I cannot wait for the self-driving car. Can not. The dream of thousands of cars automatically pushing themselves around our wonderful cities, just like they did in those classic World’s Fair Expos, gets me incredibly excited. So what are Audi and Lexus bringing to the table? Not much. Especially when you see how far ahead Google was years ago with cars that were completely autonomous.
CES 2013: 4K Ultra-High Definition Tech Will End Up In Your TV Someday Anyway
You’ll need a TV that big (or bigger!) to take advantage of 4K in the first place.
As you’re well aware, CES is in full effect at the moment and all the biggest players in tech are showing off their wares. While the industry has been cost-reduced like crazy, tech giants like Sony and Samsung are bringing out all their best televisions, looking for the next big technological leap to justify gaining a few more measly points of margin out of their displays. In the past, it was 3D, now it’s apps, soon it’s 4K, a resolution so dense that unless you have a massive television, you can’t even physically see the pixels amongst the pixels. Thing is, this “disruptive” tech is gonna end up in your TV anyway. Just give it a few years.
CES 2013: In The Future, TV’s Watch You
I don’t know where these giant hands are coming from!
How do you feel about someone staring at you while you watch TV? To watch you come and go from your living room? It sounds a little creepy but cool at the same time. Panasonic showed off it’s newest smart TV that recognizes who is watching it and shows customized channels and menus. Read the rest of this article…
US Court Says It’s Okay To Track Kids With RFID Tags In Public Schools
Andrea Gonzalez (center) lost a fight to not be tracked through her high school.
Just outside San Antonio, John Jay High School requires all of its students to wear RFID-enabled student badges to track their movements in and out of the school as well as into classrooms. In November, student Andrea Gonzalez was granted an in junction against her school district to not have to wear this tag on the defense that it violated her religious freedoms. Today, a US District Court judge denied her claim, freeing school districts anywhere from any potential passionate offense against tracking all students in a public school. But isn’t this future?
What’s With All the CES Hate?
Lonely sign…
CES starts tomorrow but there has already been so much content coming from Las Vegas you would’ve thought it started on Sunday. I’ve actually never been to CES and have always wanted to go. I like gadgets and stuff so I figured it would be a cool place to check out. A lot of tech journalist seem to disagree though. Read the rest of this article…
Oh, It’s Time For CES Again. What’s CES Again?
It’s like E3, but for televisions and tech! But mostly, televisions.
I’m a huge fan of the Consumer Electronics Show, an expo that’s been around almost as long as my parents, but maybe it’s because I’m a big nerd. I knew kids in high school that wanted to go to E3, a life goal achieved as quickly as possible after high school, but no one was ever excited about CES. Well, now it’s time for CES, again. Already. Soon, 150,000 people will flood the desert oasis of Las Vegas to view the latest and greatest technology and toys from the far corners of the Earth. Unfortunately, we won’t be there, but we can be just as excited about it. Maybe moreso.
23andMe Review: A Novelty And The Way Forward [UPDATED]
The 23andMe test kit.
A few weeks ago, I wrote up about 23andMe, the genetic screening company that could help you tap into your DNA: the mostly unknown ID you carry in every cell in your body. The company, founded by Google exec Sergey Brin’s wife, just raised a bunch of cash, granting them the ability to flood the market with cheap (relative to the original $1,000 asking price) test kits that seemed like a great way forward for, y’know, mankind. For full disclosure, I was sent one of these $99 kits from 23andMe for media evaluation and have received the first major results from the test to share with you. What did it say? Further more, would I recommend paying money for it? Or, let me put this another way, should you skip out on two new Xbox games to know part of your genetic identity? Well, I hope to provide some resolution.
What’s With Everyone Buying In To The Facebook Hoaxes?
One is born every minute, right?
I’m going to come clean with you…I hardly spend any time on Facebook which means I certainly spend less time than I should, being in a position such as mine. When I am on Facebook, it is usually for one of a very few reasons. I’m either there to see what my actual friends are doing, or to see what kind of drivel my Facebook “friends” are sharing, or to laugh at the people on my friends list who buy in to the various (and numerous) hoaxes which constantly fly around the site.
This article is about that last category.
My Most-Used Productivity Apps For Android In 2012
If you don’t have these apps, get ’em.
Chances are you got a new Android phone this holiday, but you’re pining for some apps to get your phone to be the most productive it can be. The nine apps above ended up being the most important in my collection and while some come stock on the phone, I still found myself reaching for them regularly with some new additions for 2012 over last year’s edition. Also, if you’re not using SwiftKey, you should be.
Mionix Naos 8200 Gaming Mouse Review
The Mionix Naos 8200 gaming mouse. How does it stack up?
A couple of weeks ago, the folks over at Mionix offered me the opportunity to get my hands on the Naos 8200 gaming mouse, the newest in their line of high end gaming mice. Of course I jumped at the opportunity to see if anything out there could give my Razer Mamba a run for its money, without costing hundreds of dollars. A couple of days later the FedEx guy dropped the mouse off and I dove in to the box like a kid at Christmas.
