Philips Hue Just Reinvented the Light Bulb
Meet, Hue.
Over a month ago we wrote about LIFX. They are looking to reinvent the light bulb with a connected LED bulb that allows you to completely control it from your smartphone. Changing the color, the intensity and even coming out with an SDK to allow hackers to make it work with apps or whatever else they come up with. Well, Philips has beaten LIFX to the punch with Philips Hue, available now. Read the rest of this article…
Android OS Reaches 75% Marketshare, iOS In ‘Distant’ Second
I see you hiding in the corner, Apple!
I suppose it was inevitable. Analyst group IDG recently unveiled that for the third quarter of 2012, shipments of Android-powered smartphones reached a critical 75% of all shipments made worldwide. That’s right, three out of four smartphones shipped to retailers and other resellers in the entire world had a core by Google a mere four years after Android’s debut.
Google’s New Voice Search, a Threat to Siri?
Look at that whale! I found it with my voice! I summoned it!
Siri is a pretty cool piece of technology and everyone is trying to emulate it. I’m a little surprised that Google has been taking so long to actually come out with something better. I got to say though they are getting close with the updated Google Search app that is available now. So how does it compare to Siri? I took some time and played with it and thought I would give you my thoughts. Read the rest of this article…
Google Just Unveiled The Holidays’ Best Tablet: The Nexus 10
Sexy and you know it.
I almost feel sorry for Microsoft at this point. Two years ago I was pining for a Windows Phone, but then they failed to release it for my carrier. When they finally did, I wasn’t about to trade my Epic for it. Then I said my first tablet would feature Windows 8, but then Google brought us a $200 Jelly Bean device in the Nexus 7. Now Google and Samsung bringing us a fantastic new tablet that’s gonna put a mobile Windows 8 further into my rear view mirror. Forget the iPad Mini, the Nexus 10 is gonna be the tablet to gift this holiday, yo.
Paul Ceglia, The Guy Who Is Trying to Sue Facebook, Arrested For Fraud
A good day for Facebook!
Back in 2003 Paul Ceglia had a contract with Mark Zuckerberg to build a site called StreetFax. According to Ceglia, he and Zuckerberg made an agreement on April 28, 2003 with a fee of $1,000 which entitled Ceglia to 50 percent of the website’s revenue, as well as an additional 1 percent interest in the business per day after January 1, 2004 (if Zuckerberg was tardy in deploying the site), until the website was completed. My Biggest Problem With Windows 8? App Developers
Do I really need Hulu Plus to play Parenthood in a native app instead of a Chrome window? Really?
I’ve been using Windows 8 for approximately fourteen hours already and I have to say I’m enjoying my experience, in a ‘this is crazy awesome to explore’ as well as a ‘this makes things so much easier’ way. There are definitely some downsides to the OS, like, ‘where the hell is this setting?’ and ‘stop doing that!’, but I’m finding my way around these for the most part as I get used to the new operating system’s quirks. My biggest issue with Windows 8 doesn’t really have to do with the OS, it has to do with the developers making apps for it. Or rather, not making apps for it.
What If Apple Doesn’t Break Records Next Quarter?
What if Apple’s spaceship lands? And stays there?
In case you didn’t know, Apple’s doing really well. With net margins near 25% – pretty good for a company making most of its skrilla on hardware – and incredible popularity, it seems that Apple can’t do any wrong. Today, Apple released new Q4 numbers that were, just like last year’s, disappointing by measure of most analysts. Like any best-intentioned company on Wall Street, Apple’s stock price is levied on the expectation of never-ending growth and ever-accelerating performance. In a post-Jobs era, how long can it last?
Windows 8 Buying Guide
Super ZOOM on box!
This Friday, Microsoft will release Windows 8. After showing off the Metro UI Windows 8 UI, people either loved it or hated it. Where’s the start button everyone wondered. Well the beta OS didn’t get much love either but early reviews of Windows 8 have been positive even though stating that is does have a learning curve. This year Microsoft is making upgrading to Windows 8 friendlier to the wallet with option starting at $14.99. Read the rest of this article…
The Temptation To Upgrade To Windows 8 Is Now Irresistible
This could be what I’m staring at in a few days, but cooler.
When I was a young sprout, at the tender age of seventeen, I said I wouldn’t upgrade my version of Windows until I’d bought a new computer. I looked forward to a new box with a shiny 1GHz processor, 256MB of RAM, and 50GB of hard disk to throw my expanding collection of art and music onto. Instead, I bought Windows XP in October 2001 and got a free stick of RAM, which brought me to that 128MB RAM total, just enough to run the OS in the first place. Like many things, I’m skeptical until the product is about to land and the marketing push is at its extreme. Of course, being able to purchase it on impulse doesn’t help things.
Apple Announces 4th Generation iPad & iPad Mini
Because it’s just a smaller, weaker iPad
Today at Apples press conference they announced the 4th generation iPad and the new iPad mini. The 4th gen iPad has some improvements, A6X processor that doubles the graphics capability from the last generation iPad, a Lighting connector instead of the old 30-pin connector and support for Sprint’s LTE network. The big news, though was the announcement of the iPad mini. Read the rest of this article…
