BlackBerry PlayBook Review

This has been a long time coming, mainly because I don’t like to talk bad about products but I finally made myself write this review. I’m not saying this is the worst thing in the world. In fact this tablet could be on my favorites if they just fixed some issues. Read the rest of this article…

Hardware Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab (7″ model)

Hardware Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab (7″ model)

Tablets, tablets, tablets! We live in a renaissance age for slate computers, ushered in by Apple’s iPad and followed up by… well, miles and miles of desolate wasteland. The New York Times recently did a study amongst current and potential tablet owners with nearly 95% of respondents hopping excited to own an iPad. The next closest option, the HP TouchPad, held out at a mere 10%. But why is there such a disparity, even when Android trounces Apple in smartphone marketshare? The answer is plainly obvious with Samsung’s original 7″ Galaxy Tab, a lazily-upscaled version of their original, and crazy popular, Galaxy S phones.

Google Catalog Will Turn You Into A Flaming Fashionisto

What’s this? Google’s offering a new way for consumers to spend more time on the toilet? Holy app-le sauce, I can finally stop stealing my sisters catalogs! Goodbye, webOS

Goodbye, webOS

First off: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! …*sniff* now that that’s out of my system, let’s skip to the soul-crushing side-announcement today that, on top of HP’s desire to spin off it’s PC hardware business in its potential acquisition of Autonomy, the tech giant is also nixing its webOS operations, effectively killing the reason they acquired Palm for $1.5b a year ago.

HP, Why is the TouchPad Failing?

According to Wikipedia the HP TouchPad was released on July 1, 2011 in the US. Really? I haven’t seen any advertising telling me this. Lately I’ve been seeing commercials with Manny Pacquiao, Russell Brand and Lea Michele (HP, really likes that style of commercials) on Hulu quite a bit but I had no idea it was ACTUALLY out. Finally A OneNote Alternative for Mac

Finally A OneNote Alternative for Mac
When I switched from PC to Mac, giving up my notebook program, Microsoft Office OneNote, was one of my main concerns. OneNote was fantastic for keeping track of all my writing notes, and I needed something to replace it before I was willing to switch. My research turned up Growly Notes; it’s a very similar program and has all the features I needed.

Google Talks Smack, Gets Kicked In The Junk By Microsoft

So it looks like Google made some comments earlier today, calling people out for causing them issues with patent infringement.

Google Senior VP and CLO David Drummond dropped a blog post claiming that a number of companies, including Microsoft, had been maneuvering to cause them patent issues and blamed Microsoft for teaming up with Apple to buy up a bunch of Novell patents.

More after the jump.

New iPhone 5 Design? Maybe.

Gizmodo, famous for leaking the iPhone4 last year, has gotten its hands on a set of pictures with what appears to be a new design for the iPhone. While they didn’t confirm that this is it, these certainly have an Apple flair to them and seem like a natural step towards the next design. What do you guys think?

Gadgets Without A Net: Nick and Cameras

This week, we totally stumped ourselves when we decided to write about our favorite gadgets that didn’t have – or rely – on an internet connection. Much harder than you think. Seriously, try it.

Everyone takes pictures, fewer take art. I have a background in design, in which the laws of color and composition must be closely observed for success, but it didn’t catch my attention until much later that these same principles could be applied to photography as well. I still couldn’t recommend a great color palette to save my life, but I love taking pictures.

“This Is My Next” Becomes “The Verge” This Fall; Clever Slogans Within!

“This Is My Next” Becomes “The Verge” This Fall; Clever Slogans Within!

Do you like your tech websites to look like indie rock labels? Bring back any pleasant memories? Well, the Engadget Eight’s (well, more than that now) headmaster Joshua Topolsky unveiled the new identity for the group’s full-scale effort, due out in “early Fall”. I’m a huge fan of the Penrose Triangle, but that’s just icing on the cake: we’ve been following the group since their grand exodus. Well, more power to The Verge, get ready to Rock Out, or, as I’ve prepared after the break, a variety of horrible advertising slogans!
