Virgin Mobile Will Win You Over

There has always been a stigma attached to prepaid wireless networks. Typically they provide incredibly sub-par phones and despicable service that tends to leave a bad, metallic taste in your mouth. Virgin Mobile, the prepaid wireless carrier that piggy-backs off of Sprint, is trying their best to change that stigma. Unlike the others though, they’re actually gaining more customers. Find out how after the break!

The Metro Invasion!: A Supremely Brief Article About Microsoft’s Dream Interface

The wide world of Metro UI (Clockwise from Top Left): Windows Phone, Windows 8, Zune 4.0 software, Xbox 360 Fall 2011 dashboard

You can blame Steve Ballmer all you want for Microsoft’s stagnancy. In the past decade, their revenues have cooled (allowing the once dwarf-ish Apple to surpass them in size), their employee count has exploded, their stock has stalled, and there’s been more than a few calls for Ballmer’s resignation. But, one thing we are going to see is the graphical unification of all of Microsoft’s products, the first time it’s ever happened across such a broad range, including phones, PCs, and video game systems. By the end of next year, the text-and-tile Metro UI interface system may be the most visible in the world, surpassing even iOS. While Metro is hardly perfect from a usability or preferential standpoint, it’s still a great interactive solution. So we have to wonder: where did this thing come from and why is Microsoft embracing it whole hog now? Let’s take a look, shall we?

iTunes Match Sounds Really Cool? Maybe?

iTunes Match Sounds Really Cool? Maybe?

Today was WDCC, which meant Apple’s execs stormed around on screens re-igniting our passion for e-mail clients and other boring stuff (or really, just getting their iOS features to parity with Android). The big Kahuna (or Kahlua. …anyone?) personally was the announcement of the iTunes Match feature of Apple’s new cloud-storage functionality. While it’s not anything like a Zune Pass and it’s been years since I’ve used iTunes regularly, it got me thinking: who are they pitching this to, really?

Facebook Party Gets Crashed by Over 1,500 People

Damn this sucks for one German teenager who forgot to set the privacy for her 16th birthday party in Hamburg, Germany. The public party event went viral and over 15,000 people confirmed to attend. When her parents found out that their daughter Thessa’s part was public they public cancelled it, hired private security and called the police. 100 police showed up and blocked the home but that didn’t stop over 1,500 people from partying in the streets in front of the home. I’m sorry it’s too late, they’re all sold out. Live in Tennessee? Don’t Share Your Netflix Password!

Tennessee state lawmakers just passed a new law that would make it illegal to share your Netflix, Hulu Plus, Rhapsody, etc login with any of your cheap friends. Pushed by the recording industry (of course), the new bill is just waiting for the Governor to sign it and recording officials hope other states will follow soon. Read the rest of this article…

Twitter Integrating Photos/Videos & New Search

Today a new version of Twitter’s search will start rolling out that integrates relevant photos and video in the search results. Not only is this happening but soon you will be able to attach an image with your tweets using the website or apps. You can already attach an image in the apps but they use a third party like TwitPic or Yfrog, this will be through Twitter. Photobucket and Twitter teamed up to bring the new image sharing.

I’m a really big fan of TwitPic and don’t really like Photobucket so hopefully they will still give you the option to choose whatever you want to use in the official apps. Video after the break.

Why Foursquare Is Awesome

Why Foursquare Is Awesome

It was about a year ago that I decided to try out Foursquare. I loaded the app up on my Palm Pre and checked in at Safeway, which I visited regularly. When Twitter released, it had (and still has) that niggling aspect that people will use the tech to overshare. People don’t care if you’re brushing your teeth or eating dinner or whatever. In Foursquare, people don’t need to know where you’re at at all times. To a further extreme (say, the recently defunct Blippy) people don’t need to know what you’re spending your money on, with the info pulling straight from your bank account. But like all good things, moderation is the best policy.
