My Take On The Connecticut School Shootings

Yep…that’s right Mr. Shooter. You’re a moron.

I’m going to be honest, here…This is a hot subject for me for a number of reasons. I’m not going to talk about all of those reasons but I am going to talk about the one which is the most inflammatory to me.

Throughout the last several years, we’ve had a number of shootings in very public places. From schools to malls to movie theaters, it seems that the people who commit these cowardly acts are getting more and more bold and trying to beat one another out for the title of “biggest asshole”.

And that, my friends, is the problem.

Twitter: Hurry Up And Let Me Download My Tweet Archive

Hmmm, that Klout could be a little higher…

When Facebook launched Timeline last year, I was super excited. Yeah, lots of people moaned about the new layout because that’s their prerogative, but my favorite addition was the ability to easily view my older posts. Rather than forcing you to keep loading an infinite log of past entries until your browser crashed, the Timeline allows you to simply pick a portion of time and see what you were doing back then. I’m not happy with the fact that they abbreviated much of that content, but c’est la vie. Twitter, however, has abstained from letting you view your oldest content for, as they describe, technical reasons. Well, it looks like it won’t be long until you can see your earliest content. That’s probably scarier than it sounds.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Review: Exactly the Movie You’re Expecting

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Review: Exactly the Movie You’re Expecting

Mostly walking and talking.

A couple of years ago when Peter Jackson announced that Guillermo del Toro would be grabbing the reigns of The Lord of the Rings franchise, I was excited. I wanted to see Middle Earth through the lens of del Toro’s camera. Jackson deserves credit for crafting an ambitious, epic set of movies; however, unlike a lot of movie goers, I felt underwhelmed. Compared with Jackson’s earlier efforts, The Lord of the Rings trilogy came across as visually bland and devoid of character. I found the films to be bleak and filled to the brim with self indulgent shots of faceless CGI armies slamming into each other. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, on the other hand, is a smaller, more intimate story, and Guillermo del Toro generally excels at breathing life into those types of stories. Unfortunately, Jackson ended up back in the director’s chair, and his adaptation of The Hobbit is more of the same. For better or worse, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey turned out to be exactly what I expected it to be.

Mystery Package Sent to Indiana Jones at University of Chicago

Dr. Jones?

I love a good mystery and this one is still unsolved. On Tuesday, the Economics department received a package address to Henry Walton Jones, Jr. They receive wrong mail so often and didn’t think twice about it until another student pointed out that Henry Walton Jones, Jr. was Indiana Jones. So naturally, they opened it. Read the rest of this article…

SimCity Requires Internet Connection At All Times, Will Not Let You Save Cities Without It

All this can be yours… if you don’t lose your wireless signal.

Reddit is currently running an AMA (Ask Me Anything) with members of SimCity’s development team over at Maxis where they respond to questions from the community-at-large. The biggest revelation? Your copy of SimCity will need to be permanently connected to the internet or you’ll lose your city save. A terrible thing or overblown dramatics?

Product Review – Turtle Beach Ear Force Sierra – Black Ops II Edition

The Turtle Beach Ear Force Sierra – Black Ops II Edition

Turtle Beach sent us a couple of their headsets – The Sierra and the Tango – for testing and review. We got ahold of them just over a week ago and have put them through the paces, in a pretty serious way. From analyzing them on various testing equipment through using them to play various games and watch movies, we ran them around in circles.

Here’s what I thought of the Sierra.

Samsung, Does The World Need A Phone With A 6.3″ Display?

Samsung, Does The World Need A Phone With A 6.3″ Display?

Like this, but a little smaller. Not by much.

Word is leaking around the globe that the next iteration of Samsung’s mammoth Galaxy Note phone (or phone/tablet (or phablet)) is expected to hit a gargantuan 6.3″ next year. That’s pretty ridiculous, but Samsung claims that it’s filling a gap in their size spectrum between their popular smartphones and their smallest tablets. Considering the success of their Note phones (despite some industry expectations), it makes sense that bigger might be better, but how big is too big?

‘Knights & Dragons: Rise of the Dark Prince’ (iOS) Review: A Medieval Blast Or Another Microtransactional Blunder?

Attack this generic looking dragon!

It seems like everyone is trying to cash in on developing microtransaction games these days. Gree, a mobile social gaming company who you’ve probably never heard of, released Knights & Dragons: Rise of the Dark Prince, a game you’ve also probably never heard of until now. I was lucky enough to snag a digi copy a few days prior. Will it be able to hold its own in an already over populated genre?

That’s Odd: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Kinda Sucks

The Dwarven Abercrombie & Fitch Calendar

Okay guys, I’m not a big fantasy buff. Yeah, I’m a super nerd, sure, but Lord of the Rings was simply never fascinating. I was a Fallout kid, not a child of D&D. I liked Star Wars, but not The Hobbit. Snooze. Despite my disposition though, I really enjoyed Peter Jackson’s films (and could, as a once-future animator, enjoy Ralph Bakshi’s version), but only in a well, I never need to see these again sorta way. It’s been nine years and after some legal issues/politicking at New Line Cinema, Peter Jackson has finally brought us The Hobbit, except instead of taking a brief approach to a brief book, they decided to expand it to an entirely new trilogy. Early reviews have not been kind on the new film (which holds a 69% at Rotten Tomatoes, nearly 30 points lower than any of the Lord of the Rings films) and I imagine the sequels are going to have an even harder time when they release next year and in 2014. What is the industry saying? Well…
