Jack Reacher Review: Limited By the Script

He may have no limits, but his script does.

A man drives a white van to the top of a parking deck. He casually parks, deposits a quarter in the parking meter, and pulls out a rifle. He positions himself on a ledge overlooking a nearby park and methodically picks off a handful of people. Then he climbs back into his van and drives away during the ensuing panic. Local police scour the scene, uncover a mountain of forensic evidence, and soon arrest James Barr, a former Army sniper once accused of murdering four military contractors in Iraq. Do the authorities have their guy? Of course not. This is Hollywood after all, and no crime is solved in a Hollywood movie until a renegade with a chiseled jaw has beaten the hell out of at least half a dozen guys and tore ass through a major metropolitan area in an American muscle car. That renegade here is Jack Reacher played by Tom Cruise.

Gifting A Wii U This Holiday? Nintendo Says Rip Open That Box And Update It First

Imagine enjoying your Wii U on Christmas Day, but only after an hour of updates. Would you enjoy that? Would you?

In a message sure to never be received by your loving grandparents, Nintendo took to its Twitter account to recommend that anyone giving their beloved family or friends a new Wii U console should update their console first. It seems a little weird that the console manufacturer least associated with seamless online experiences would recommend that customers… wait a minute, this makes complete sense.

FEZ/PLAY: Max Payne 3 (Xbox 360)

Grgggrggg I’m Max Payne ggrrgrgrr

I decided to dig out my copy of Max Payne 3 that I keep on tap just so I can… I don’t know, start playing again? MP3 was a pretty epic game, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t Max Payne enough. Well, I’m granting you a one-off opportunity to see me play Max Payne 3 again before it’s inevitably buried at the bottom of my pile of junk. No spoilers, this is just the first level. It’s all I can take, really.

It’s The End Of The World As We Know It And I Feel Fine

Just one way out.

At the time of this posting, we are nine hours into December 21st, 2012, the fabled rejuvenation of the Mayan calendar and final historical reference to any definitive end of days. We enjoy this so much because we wonder how we would handle ourselves in such a scenario where people relied on us more than ever. What if we needed to be sturdier, craftier creatures than our neighbors? How smart are we? Could we truly survive the apocalypse? Let’s go over a few scenarios.

Nokia, Stop Wasting Your Talent And Make An Android Phone Already

I rock at Photoshop, guys. Photo credit: Wired

It’s been nearly two years since Nokia announced, before a truly precipitous change in fortune, they would be abandoning their once insanely popular Symbian OS and embracing Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform full-time for all of its smartphones. The coup, lead by newly-installed CEO Stephen Elop – and coincidentally, former Microsoft VP – seemed to be a huge leg up for Steve Ballmer’s camp as Windows Phone had failed to gain any market traction. Well, after two years, Microsof’t’s mobile platform has still failed to gain traction. So it makes sense that I plead, before Microsoft’ sinks Nokia’s boat entirely, that the Finnish phone giant should really take a stab at Android. It really, really should.

Fuel Overdose (PSN) Review: Combat Racing With A Really Bad Anime Fever

It’s a post-apocalyptic combat racer, guys. Really!

After the apocalypse, combat racing will become the sport of choice.
