E3 2012 – N’s Predictions
If for some reason you’re not aware, E3 is the world’s biggest gaming event. All the big companies bring out their wares, both soft and hard, in a (sometimes laborious) horse and pony show for the world to see. All the major outlets are there and every gaming eye and ear is paying attention to these industry-shaking announcements. So what will happen at this year’s show? We all have our thoughts on the matter, and being FleshEatingZipper, we know a few things about this industry, so just like Rob did the other day, it’s time to make a few predictions as to what gaming’s movers and shakers will unveil in just two and a half weeks.

The Dictator Review: Not So Great Dictator
In 1940, not long before America’s entry into World War II, Charlie Chaplin released The Great Dictator—a film about a Jewish barber who swaps places with a stand-in for Adolf Hitler and brings democracy to his country. In 2012 Sacha Baron Cohen has produced The Dictator—a film about a Middle Eastern dictator in the vein of Hussein and Gaddafi who swaps places with a peasant and struggles valiantly to prevent his countrymen from being subjected to horrible, horrible democracy. Chaplin produced a fantastic film. Baron Cohen’s movie? Well, even the title doesn’t attempt to compete with the greatness of that earlier film.

Games We’re NOT Going To Be Seeing At E3
No 20th Century, patriotic pants-wearing game characters for us this year!
With our inaugural trip to E3 mere weeks away, we at FleshEatingZipper are obviously excited about the scores of big titles that we’ll be able to get our hands on and report for you. Unfortunately, it’s just as big a disappointment to you as it us to us when companies announce that they’re not going to be bringing their games to the show. With that, let’s get all of our tears out of the way for those titles and move on. Be better together. Somehow…

Building Oceana: The Verge’s Minecraft Pyramid – Week Five
Oceana builder Salaman completing a diagonal
This is part of an ongoing series chronicling the construction of Oceana, an epic Survival-built megastructure on the Vergecraft server. Be sure to check them all out!
Week One – Week Two – Week Three – Week Four – Week Five – Final Week
This past week brought a ton of progress in the Oceana Mega-City Pyramid project. With the Vergecraft’s server white-list open once more, new players are now finally able to stream into our digital frontiers. The list, which had been instituted to limit griefing to existing structures (an issue that, unfortunately, still occurs), was shut off for several weeks. But things are different now. Before we dive into the cool individual accomplishments in the pyramid, let’s talk about the pyramid itself, which has seen a hefty upgrade as it reaches completion.

Can We Bring Back The Racing Game?
A quickly vanishing sight in gaming, from Project Gotham Racing 4. PHOTO CREDIT: Garratose at GameTrailers forums
There it lies: a smoldering husk of a car spun off the tarmac into the weeds. Maybe the wheels can still spin, maybe the engine can still pump, but it seems like a lost cause at this point. Racing is a genre that you’d assume would have more heft than, say, snowboarding – which had a renaissance last generation and then quickly vanished with little trace – and yet here we are. Before I bought my first console, my experience with racing games was limited to Mario Kart and Papyrus’ relatively hardcore NASCAR Racing for the PC, but exchanging my keyboard and joystick for a controller was the best way to satiate my need for speed. But what happened? Why did these games disappear?

TV Cancellation/Renewal Roundup: Why Do I Bother Watching TV Anyway?
There is a bunch of stuff that I don’t agree with, with this round of cancellations and renewals. I suffer the most out of the entire staff because I will pretty much watch anything that keeps my attention. That being said if you listened to our last podcast you heard that Alcatraz was cancelled. Who didn’t see that coming though? We’re starting off with the bad news first then ending with the good news! If I don’t talk about a show it’s because I don’t care about it. Deal. Dark Shadows Review: Familiarity Breeds Contempt
Tim Burton’s remake of Dark Shadows serves as a cautionary tale of what happens when you take of a collection of brilliant, talented people and allow them to make a multi-million dollar movie in a state of complete complacency. This movie sports a fantastic cast including Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jackie Earl Haley, Chloe Moretz, and Eva Green among others; it benefits from slick production values; and it is based on an intriguing high concept. All of these great elements, however, never coalesce into anything more than a tedious theatrical experience.

Ghost Recon Alpha Movie Trailer Released
Ubisoft is doing something a little different with the release of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. They made a 25 minute live action movie prequel to the game. The movie follows the Ghosts as they are dropped deep behind enemy lines in order to eliminate one of the world’s most sought-after war criminals. The location of the film is actually one of the multiplayer maps and there is an exclusive unlock code hidden in the film to unlock a special weapon. Read the rest of this article…
