‘Man on a Ledge’ Review – Just Jump Already

A great title and a good trailer gave me high hopes for “Man on a Ledge.” It’s a simple enough formula. Take Sam Worthington as the desperate escaped convict, put him on the precarious ledge of a building, add Elizabeth Banks as the haunted negotiator trying to talk him down, and then present it all to us as a taut and clever heist film… Sign me up!

Unfortunately, Man on a Ledge is all premise and no plot. The film is preposterous and silly in equal measure.

Key And Peele Review

Key And Peele Review

Last night was the premiere of Key And Peele, a sketch comedy show created by none other than Key and Peele. Now before you disregard the show entirely, think of how many shows out there that could follow tosh.0. Ok, bad example.

EverQuest Going Free To Play; I’m Pretty Excited.

EverQuest Going Free To Play; I’m Pretty Excited.

If the above image invokes some distant nostalgia, then we’re on the exact same wavelength. I remember wandering through those large, empty spaces, clubbing bats for hours. Chessboard (above) was the centerpiece of some high-end action in the starter Butcherblock Mountains zone before you wandered off to parts unknown. EverQuest, thirteen years after its original release, at a time that I was still going on monthly Boy Scout campouts, is going free to play. While much of the high-end content, higher rungs on the tech tree, and many zones will be locked away for subscribers, but I don’t think Sony Online Entertainment can deny me another trip through Butcherblock and Freeport. The game had an incredible eighteen expansions over that time, but only Ruins of Kunark was out when I played back in 2000.

SWTOR Patch 1.1.1 released – Bug Fixes And Goodies Abound!

For the second time in 3 days, EA / BioWare shut down their SWTOR servers again last night (this time there was a lot of lead time on the announcement) and implemented a new patch for the game. With Patch 1.1 having come out recently, it is good to see them pushing out fixes and content at a good clip.

Let’s just hope they keep up this trend.

I have the patch notes for the new patch, in their entirety, and they are posted below.

Engadget Introduces “StoryStreams” To Tech News, Fails To Capitalize On The Verge’s Shortcomings

Engadget Introduces “StoryStreams” To Tech News, Fails To Capitalize On The Verge’s Shortcomings

Today, Engadget unveiled ‘Follow the Saga’, a metastream of related articles bound for easy reference. If you need to catch up on the current story, you can simply display a Follow the Saga, saving the writer a ton of time and energy establishing back story in every new article. If you want to read up on SOPA from the very first mention to the latest protests and blackouts, you can peruse those works chronologically with a Follow the Saga or StoryStream. But the problem isn’t attribution – who really made the tech first, Engadget or The Verge? – because everyone’s dipping their toe into this pool. At the end of the day, Engadget’s crime is in the implementation. Also, the name is awful.

It’s A Ferris Bueller Honda Commercial. Bastards.

Ready to be disappointed with the rest of the world? The teaser of what could potentially have been a trailer for a Ferris Bueller sequel, turns out to be nothing but a Honda CR-V commercial. Let me reiterate how disappointed I am. However, this could be a blessing in disguise. Read the rest of this article…

The FBI is Going To Monitor Facebook, Twitter & MySpace. Who Cares?

The FBI recently put out an request for information for someone to build an app that scraps data from Facebook, Twitter, MySpace (I thought that was dead), Google+ (lol) and news websites to have real time information on anything they wanted at any given time. To me it sounds like a private search engine and I say who cares, let them. Read the rest of this article…

E-mail Providers To Block Male Enhancing Spam, 1/4 Population Bummed

E-mail Providers To Block Male Enhancing Spam, 1/4 Population Bummed

Many familiar e-mail clients (AOL, Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft to name a few) have decided to join forces and defend your inbox from the horrible wrath of phishing and spam. Cutting-edge standards that will rid the world of technological scum are being enforced by a newly formed coalition called the Domain-based Message Authentication. What everyone seems to be forgetting is how hard this will hit that quarter of the population who actually want their genitalia larger, help a Nigerian king, or to remind PayPal of their social security number.

I Want To Subscribe To Wired Magazine, But…

I Want To Subscribe To Wired Magazine, But…

Between 1996 and 2002, I collected every new issue of PC Gamer, most of which were purchased individually off magazine racks. I wanted to know more about PC gaming and, well, they were the premier publication to acquire facts and opinions about it as a 12-year old kid. I developed a connection to the magazine during Gary Whitta’s time as Editor-in-Chief (he’s gone on to much bigger stuff since then) and loved to follow the staff as they made each issue an adventure. Nowadays, the publication’s merely a brochure for the hobby and I doubt it’ll be around much longer. So why do I bring it up? Because it reminds me so much of how I want to fall in love with Wired, but I just can’t pull the trigger.
