T-Mobile’s New ‘Uncarrier’ Rules Remove Contracts, Pricy Data Plans And… Phone Discounts

Six of one, half-dozen of another.

I’m glad we have smaller carriers in the United States like T-Mobile and Sprint, ones that are willing to offer crazy things that bigger carriers like Verizon and AT&T have already removed from their min-maxed line of thinking. While T-Mobile was always a bit cheaper on a monthly basis, they’re now offering to become your ‘uncarrier’, allowing you to have cheaper monthly rates without a contract, which seems fantastic if you’re either trying to save dollars or regularly swapping out SIMs. There’s a catch to that, though. An expensive one.

‘Super Metroid’ Re-envisioned In High Definition Via… Photoshop?

‘Super Metroid’ Re-envisioned In High Definition Via… Photoshop?

The level of detail is far beyond insane.

Super Metroid is good, Super Metroid is great, rah rah rah. I enjoyed Metroid Prime when I owned a Gamecube, but my only experience from the Super variety came from when our very own Kelly wanted to show me a game he could beat really quick. He did, I watched it all, then never wanted to play Super Metroid, ever. Really, this is just an excuse to post this timelapse of Element79 from deviantART putting together a crazy super-high fidelity reproduction of the climactic fight of that game.

‘XCOM: Enemy Unknown’ To Land On iPhone, iPad Later This Year, No Android Love Found

‘XCOM: Enemy Unknown’ To Land On iPhone, iPad Later This Year, No Android Love Found

Thankfully, it doesn’t seem forced onto these smaller devices.

2K’s going to put last year’s Game of the Year favorite XCOM: Enemy Unknown on iOS devices. Yep. They’ll even do it without sacrificing the gameplay and, as the video will have it, not much of its Unreal-powered visuals.

The Facebook Hashtag Is Coming, Are You Ready?

The Facebook Hashtag Is Coming, Are You Ready?

#Image #Description #Witty #Haha #OhMan

This news actually broke a while ago, but it’s taken until now to realize how interesting of an idea this is. I’ve been using Twitter for almost five years, but the art of hashtagging (#) my posts has been lost on me. Maybe it’s the low signal to noise ratio of Twitter that’s prevented me from taking advantage of it that’s also shown me why it would make complete sense for Facebook to integrate it.

‘Banished’ Is A Survival City-Builder I Want To Get My Hands On

‘Banished’ Is A Survival City-Builder I Want To Get My Hands On

Only you can ensure the survival of your townfolk.

Everything about this sounds cool: you lead a group of exiles to build a settlement in the wilderness using only what the land came with. Then, as you gather each resource, they must be crafted further to create more and more distinct tools. It sounds a little bit like The Settlers or Caesar, but as demonstrated below, Banished sheds much of what was added to that game for a purer experience. One that I must devour.

‘Zombieland’ To Become TV Series Thanks To Amazon

‘Zombieland’ To Become TV Series Thanks To Amazon

It’s still really popular, guys.

Zombieland is a funny, inventive movie which had exactly one flaw: there’s only eighty-eight minutes of it. No, make that two flaws: that was four years ago. Gosh, well, make that three: Ruben Fleischer, the film’s director, has been too busy not making more Zombieland in the meantime. Well, Amazon Studios, the content creation arm of that other Amazon you know, of Prime and Kindle fame, has decided to move on with creating a show. The pilot, anyway.

‘Admission’ Review: Can Two Likable Leads Save a Boring Movie?

‘Admission’ Review: Can Two Likable Leads Save a Boring Movie?

If anyone can, it’s these two.

After taking this gig reviewing movies for FleshEatingZipper, I actually learned a few things about my own tastes in movies. Namely, I’ve learned that if I simply don’t like a movie that is otherwise well-made, I have tendency to rhetorically ask, “What’s the point?” and maybe it’s unfair to ask that question. It’s certainly lazy to dismiss a film by asking that question. Movies don’t necessarily need to shine a light on a pressing issue to be enjoyable. Several movies I raved about last year had no real reason for existing other than to entertain and yet, I still kept asking myself that question repeatedly while watching Admission.

‘Olympus Has Fallen’ Review: The Stupidest Flick of 2013?

‘Olympus Has Fallen’ Review: The Stupidest Flick of 2013?

Fucking terrorists, man.

North Korean terrorists attack the White House. They infiltrate the highest levels of the South Korean government and use that leverage to get many of their commandos into the United States by having them pose as body guards to the South Korean Prime Minister. The rest of a force of some one hundred soldiers utterly annihilate White House security and blast into the mansion with a combination of RPGs, assault rifles, machine guns, and plastic explosives. They’re so well-organized and well-trained that they manage to snag the President (Aaron Eckhart) and hold him hostage. However, one man stands between the dastardly terrorists and world domination, and he intends to shove an American flag up the ass of every scum-sucking freedom-hater and turn it sideways.

HBO Go Streaming-Only Plan May Actually Come to the US

Hurry up and come to me!

Back in August, I wrote about how parts of Europe would be allowed to subscribe to an online-only version of HBO Go, the complement to your current HBO service that allows you to stream HBO shows on demand, and how I desperately wanted it. Well it may actually happen. Read the rest of this article…
