Because You Asked For It, Vertu Is Releasing A Bizarre $11,000 Android Phone

It’s delectable, but stupid, yet amazing.

Vertu phones have always been a bit of a joke. Here’s this incredibly expensive mobile technology artifact that takes the finest of Nokia’s Symbian OS and marries it with luxurious, hand-made hardware. Their designs were exquisite, weird, and it was hard to imagine an actual human purchasing one. Now that Vertu has unveiled their Ti model, I might have to start a Kickstarter donation drive to own one. You see, Nokia sold Vertu last year, freeing them from the obligation to Symbian, but also a further note to Windows Phone. Vertu picked Android for compatibility and while the specs are pretty admirable, but there are enough lukewarm bits in here to throw even the most casual Android fan off.

PayPal Coming to a Gas Pumps Near You

This reminds me that I need to get gas tomorrow…

Isn’t is the future already? Why are we still paying with cash, checks and carrying around wallets full of cards? Google Wallet has been trying to get NFC out there but have been getting blocked by wireless carriers because they have their own agendas that aren’t in fruition yet. Read the rest of this article…

Your Dream Arcade, In Your Home? YUP!

Your Dream Arcade, In Your Home? YUP!

Arcadey goodness, in your home! Sign me up!

So, I got this press release today about arcade games and Valentine’s Day. It was really just a sales pitchy kinda thing in which they were letting me know that a company that makes arcade machines (the kind where you can play like 150 different games) is having a super-mega sale on their wares, for Valentine’s Day.

I read the release, went to the site, looked around for a bit, and then I saw it… choirs of angels sang out and a magical light shone down upon me from the heavens.

Nike Says No Fuelband Android App In The Works, Decides We Shouldn’t Be Friends

Oh sure, it looks like a magical pantheon of fitness from here, but…

Like many Americans, fitness isn’t a thing I do. Oh sure, it’s classy when you live in urban areas without a car and any long distance can be destroyed with public transportation and some legwork, but unless you’re some kind of superman, I enjoy working out as much as the next guy. Which is to say, I don’t, or at least I need some incredibly large amount of gamification. So it may come as no surprise that I’ve recently been looking at one of these new fitness bands to incentivize more trips to the fridge or 7-eleven, such as Jawbone’s Up, the new Fitbit device, and Nike’s Fuelband. Well, all except the last, now that Nike has publicly said they have no plans for an Android app.

No Dance Skills Required: Doing The Harlem Shake

No Dance Skills Required: Doing The Harlem Shake

Do the Harlem Shake!

This craze of doing the “Harlem Shake” has been getting major buzz over the last couple of weeks. If you don’t know what it is let me quickly explain it. Song starts with music and there is one person doing some kind of stupid dance or thrusting, bonus points if they are wearing some kind of mask, around other people that are completely unfazed, then you hear “do the Harlem Shake” and the music drops and it cuts to same scene where everyone is acting a fool. Verizon And Android 4.0 Broke My Phone

GOOD GAME, Verizon…Good game.

Yeah, so I’ve been waiting for the Android 4.0 update for like…forever. It seems like my phone, the HTC Thunderbolt, is the last phone on the face of the planet to get the update. Now I wish they hadn’t given it to me at all because my phone is basically a paperweight since the update dropped a few days ago.

Helpful Reminder: Power Rangers Turns 20 This Year, Our Expert Checks In

There were so many!

Haim Saban is a genius. During the eighties, the music he produced became embedded in the fabric of many a childhood – including my own – through shows like Inspector Gadget, M.A.S.K., and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, just to name a few. In the power vacuum left by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ declining popularity, Saban’s production company struck gold by importing Japanese TV shows and re-filming portions of them for American audiences. Their first? Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, an adaptation of the long-running Super Sentai series (literally: Fighting Squadron), featuring a group of teenagers “with attitude” that would fight the summoned, comical villains of Rita Repulsa, an evil witch on the moon. In a post-Captain Planet world, combining their powers (and their giant, animal-themed mechs) into a giant knight seemed incredibly logical. I spent many a recess running around the school’s playground, thrusting my hands in the air screaming ‘It’s Morphin’ Time!’. Sometimes, I still do.

Identity Thief Review: Pretty Sure We’ve Seen This One Before

Identity Thief Review: Pretty Sure We’ve Seen This One Before

I hope you two were well compensated.

I’ve spent the past day trying against all odds to muster the energy to write a review for Identity Thief. And even now, I still can’t find any reason to give two shits about the movie. It’s not good enough to praise, and it’s not awful enough to inspire any sort of rage. It’s just…there. It’s not the kind of movie you actually pay to see. It’s the kind of movie that you watch on Comedy Central five years later when you’re hung over on an early Sunday morning and there’s literally nothing else on television.

CONFIRMED: System Shock Franchise To Resurface With GOG/Steam Release [UPDATE]

Gaming’s most horrifying villain can’t come to digital storefronts soon enough.

System Shock, the cult favorite PC horror franchise, is ready for new life incredibly soon, FleshEatingZipper has learned. According to our sources, a “new development/publishing studio will be handling the release”, spearheaded with a new digital release of System Shock 2 on GOG within days, the perfect starting point for any classic PC gaming connoisseur. A Steam release is said to follow within the next month at a later, undetermined date. While the complexities of such a new deal were not revealed, for many years following the dissolution of Looking Glass Studios, the legal rights to the series have been up in the air and long-time fans have had to resort to abandonware or other, illicit means to acquire their rad cyberpunk dosage of Shodan’s madness. No longer!

Side Effects Review: The First Great Movie of 2013

Side Effects Review: The First Great Movie of 2013

Side Effects may include nausea, vomiting, and random acts of violence.

Having just seen Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects, I feel the need to issue a retraction. The ten or so people who regularly read my column might recall that, in my review for Zero Dark Thirty, I pessimistically claimed that we likely wouldn’t see any good dramas land in theaters until at least March. Well, I was wrong. Dead wrong. Side Effects, which premieres all over the country this weekend, is one of the best murder mysteries I’ve seen in a good long while.
