The Walking Dead (PC) Season 1 Review: A Strong Zombie Apocalypse
A dinner not soon forgotten.
Telltale Games finally has a hit. When the adventure game genre was long thought to be dead and buried, some LucasArts alum – a company that made some of the best of those games – got together and formed Telltale. Focusing at first on rebooting their Sam & Max games as a series of episodic adventures using a simple engine and simple gameplay carted over from the late nineties, they got to spend most of their time developing the games, rather than the tools. Recently, they convinced Universal to let them make new adventure games based on their Back to the Future and Jurassic Park franchises, both succeeding to varying degrees. With Walking Dead however, they’ve struck it out of the park with a franchise that’s as powerful as ever and a game that sustains it. For the most part.

Zero Dark Thirty Review: In the End, They All Break
This is it. The wide release of Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty unofficially marks the end of Hollywood’s prestige season. Now it’s back to bland horror remakes and inert action movies until the studios cycle back around to the big tentpole flicks of the summer. However, Zero Dark Thirty, Bigelow’s interpretation of the manhunt for Osama bin Laden, is a fine film for 2012 to go out on. It’s not the best movie of the year, but it’s another fine historical procedural in the vein of Argo.

FEZ’s Look At Torchlight 2
A lot of people have been hating on Blizzard as of late, and more specifically the DRM behind Diablo III, as well as other aspects of the game. Yes, Blizzard can make pretty cut-scenes, and some of the gameplay videos hinted at a neat system behind it all, but I just never had the interest to buy it on Day One, the hype of it a withering sentiment to begin with, and now that it’s out and people are crying foul, there is less of an appeal for the game. I don’t portend to know better than Blizzard on how a game should be made, nor its approach to community and security, as I have no experience in dealing with a user base as large as theirs. Broad-brush social techniques seem to be the norm in that arena of development, so it’s easy to see why certain things slip through the cracks, and can damage the game in a very irreparable way.

Why Is CES Such A Bunch Of Balls?
Meh…
The Consumer Electronics Show…It’s been around for a long time. First held in 1967, it has been the show of shows for introducing new concepts and visions in consumer electronics, since its inception.
Introducing new products like the VCR (in 1970) and the DVD (in 1996), lots of cool new stuff has come out of CES. Unfortunately, a lot of really boring stuff has come out of there, as well.

The White House Responds to Death Star Petition, “This Isn’t the Petition Response You’re Looking For”
The start of DEATH!
In November there was a White House petition titled, “secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.” This petition quickly reached 25,000 signatures, the minimum number of people required that will prompt the White House administration to respond. The petition says it will strengthen our national defense and create jobs. Students from Lehigh University figured out the math and it would take $852 quadrillion and 833,315 years to produce enough steel to build it. Read the rest of this article…
Virtual Reality Finally Wins: Apparently, The Oculus Rift Won CES 2013
The future is here. Well, soon.
We covered the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset when it hit Kickstarter last year and while I didn’t end up sinking the cash for their developer kits, I am in love with idea behind the device. VR headsets have come and gone, but our long-awaited savior has yet to arrive. But soon it will: according to reports out of CES, the Rift’s first tradeshow, this is the real deal. I can’t wait.
